Default axles for your swap

ok heres the deal. everyone on here says that for a b18a swap into a ef you can just use the LS axles from the integra. i do not know how they got this information how it worked for them (if it did). but the axles from a '91 integra ls do not work in a ef civic. they hit the lip on the spindles and prevent the wheels from spinning. the only way i could get this swap to worl was by using '89 integra axles (b16). thes are the same diameter as the civic's axles and are short enough so that the hubs by the tranny are not compressed like they are with the b18 axles. not maybe theres some weird reason b18 dont work in just my car but i doubt it. so if there is a way to get the b18 axles to fit please tell me because its bothering me that other people can get them to fit and they didnt with me. thanks

Did you get them for a non-ABS model?

I have 90-93 integra axles in my civic and I did not have to modify anything.

yes they are non-abs and the contact point of the axles is that the spindle is jammed up against the axle hub. it seems odd that no one has run into this before.

dot your t's and cross your i's... you have to remove the dust rings for the 90-93 ls axles to work.

Yes, I did remember to remove the dust rings
Did I mention i removed the dust rings?

This is a 91 EF so I do not know if that makes a difference? Also, it was originally an automatic, not sure if that makes a difference either......

The 89 Integra Axles fit perfect

That's really weird, as the 89 Integra axles would be for a D-series and shouldn't work for a B-series trans.

Anyways, where did you get them from? I've had problem with ill-fitting aftermarket axles before.

Also, if your car is SHANKED (slammed, dropped, tuckin wheels, whatever the expletive the term is nowadays), this might cause axle bind as well. I raised my car a bit (using Autozone DA axles + int. shaft) and my binding went right away.

I was considering the issue might be the manufacturer since "everyone" said the 90 Integra axles would fit. Advanced Auto Parts is where we got the axles. The car is not "slammed" - yet ......

The 89 Integra axles fit perfect. We counted the splines and used a micrometer - perfect match, not to mention that they are in the car and fit great.

Could it be related to the fact that the car is a 91/auto?

No, the hubs on the auto are the same as the manual, so it won't make a difference.

Well, considering that you got them at Advance, I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility that they gave you the wrong axles to begin with. Maybe they gave you 88-89 Teg axles before and now gave you 90-93 LS axles. I'd be willing to bet that they did.

I guess it's possible however the guys at this Advanced seem to be on the ball and sponsor two of our cars. When they delivered the axles I should have compared them much more closely than i did. I just matched up the length and the splines on both ends, they looked good so i gave them the cores.

At this point I'm not sure what to do to verify what happened, i guess when i order/replace these axles (and i assume i eventually will) from Advanced just request the the same part number as these ones.
