Default Engine rattle getting louder

Alright alright I have an H22 vtec lude and I have an engine rattle that occurs when lifting the throttle slightly and between shifts. Idle is fine and holding rpm around 1500 in neutral gives a constant rattle. Performance is still there. I did plenty searching and I'm not sure if it's the head or block at fault. Gonna do a tear down this weekend but would like some headsup on what to look for. Thought I would raise a couple old threads with this kinda problems but apparently some members don't like that. However, anyone experiencing this problem before please feel free to chime in.

If the rattle is coming from the crank shaft area you may have spun a bearing that can lead to a rod knock. I know with my prelude after I hit 100k I change all the bearings.

Same prob with built h22 spun rod bearing seems common. If you dont drive the car it can be saved but youre gonna need a crank also

The rattle seems like it's in the head.

This problem only occurs when you lift the throttle?? Also, is it a "ticking" sound or an actual rattle sound? If it's a ticking sound i would suggest doing a valve adjustment. If its a rattle, is it a higher pitched rattle like a valve, or is it a deeper sound like maybe larger head components loose? if it's higher pitched i would say try a valve adjustment first and see what you find with the VC off. If it sounds like larger components rattling then take the VC off and see if anything is loose. If it sounds like its the block, then most likely is sounds like a knocking rod, and could be as easy as a bearing replacement. But i would be easy on her until you completely diagnose the problem. Good luck and let us know what you find!

No1 and No4 conrod bearing spun/knock. Gonna start overhauling my standard block. Block was built with eagle rods and ACL bearings.
