Default D15B1 Options.

Hey, after a MAJOR tune-up on my Civic STD and a smog i am low on funds, i was wondering if the D15B2 cam would fit in my D15B1 to get a little extra kick out of the 70hp. I'm going to be doing a MPFI next month, and probably a swap after that. But for now what are my options for cheap bang for the buck horse-power. With the Exception of Fartcans and Intakes.

Ah, yeah because of those restrictor plates, noticed those when doing the tune-up kinda weird.

Dont waste your money with anything on that engine. It's a fuel economy motor. Not meant to be fast. Get the MPFI, then swap.

Hehe, Yeah i know it's a fuel economy engine but getting up hills is rough for the little D15B1. Do SI Cams fit on the D15b1? Isn't there a difference of 2mm?

If you are short on cash, using the DX cam, DX ECU, DX exhaust manifold, and removing the restrictor plate will bump your HP up to the 92HP that a DX gets. Otherwise, go MPFI. Or, better yet, swap. Also, an SI transmission will help ALOT. EVEN if you stay DPFI.

I have a B1 in my 91 stock hatch and a spare B2 sitting in my garage. Are you saying that the only thing that gives a boost from 70hp to 90hp is the restrictor plate?

Nope, Pretty much the difference between the B2 and B1 is the B1 has a mild cam, and Restrictor Plate in the Intake Manifold. ECU and Transmission are different too of course. Pick Your Part is having a 50% off sale Sat Sun Mon this 16, 17, 18 i think. Gonna head there and get me a bumper, ECU, B2head/cam, and Tranny.

First of all, you DON'T need another head. The head casting on the B2 is IDENTICAL to the B1, and, for that matter, the A6. So save yourself some money here. Unless, of course, you want a spare. On the other hand, I HIGHLY recommend that you get the rocker arms from whatever head you pull the cam from. AND MAKE A NOTE OF THEIR EXACT POSITIONS! This will minimize any wear issues that you miht have as a result of using a differenct cam. One more thing. You might also consider going there tomorrow and ditching the parts somewhere in the yard so that you can guarantee that you get them. I typically ditch parts in an old-school American land yacht. After all, obody would THINK of looking there for Honda parts. Granted, the stuff you want is not high-demand stuff. But you just might want to put it there. Just in case.

Everything bolts up fine. Also, don't forget the SI transmission tomorrow. That's the one thing that REALLY makes this all worthwhile. Just make sure to get the right one - 1988 or 1989-1991. Or, if you can't find the right one, grab the clurch and flywheel along with the transmission.
