Default Hit 15psi w/ sc61 on stock block...yikes

Well today I was going to test my car a bit because I was going to setup an appointment at phantasm motorsports to get a tune later on this week. I was trying to make sure everything was functioning properly before I hit the dyno. So I am in 3rd gear cruising at about 4k and decided to give it 75% throttle. I was expecting my wastegate to open up at 7psi but it didnt. The car hit 15 psi in an instant. I was so scared that I blew something. Car doesnt seem to be driving any different but I will have to get a compression check to see. Since I am running open downpipe you can only imagine the sound and smoke that come from the bottom of the car. Seems like I am running pretty rich... that could be a good thing. Its only tunned for my old 18G setup which is not even comparably similar. What are the signs of cracked ringlands? I have 1 line coming from the wastegate to the turbo as seen in the picture. However I checked and it looks like another hole in the back of the wastegate for another fitting. Does that need to be plugged? Thx for the help

Probably happening because the location for the wastegate on that log manifold.

One symptom of cracked ringlands is excessive blowby. Compression test will tell you the rest.

I hope for the best, but I am sure you know the stock H22 ringlands are like glass.

What would be some symptoms of that? I had oil everywhere when I took off my old greddy setup. I thought it was because of the bad oil seal. There was that seemed to be leaking from the valve cover. Thought it just to be a worn out valvecover gasket.

I refuse to believe it... I am going to do a compression test asap tomorrow. I will post the results

if i was a bettin man its prolly cuz you have the vacume line is hooked up to the wrong port on the wastegate........the top port is for a electronic boost controller and the bottom one is to run off the wastegate sping. so prolly why you hit 15psi right away

If there's any damage it'll be because you drove around with the much bigger turbo untuned, and detonated the crap of a cylinder.

yes the one on top is for boost controllers and the the bottom one is to run off the wastegate spring itself

^ ... makes my setup look like fisher-price lol. Tony 1 who owns a low 9 second civic was discussing how log manifolds can cause uncontrollable detonation. Manifolds with all runners pointing at the turbos are the best to use. How much power you making?

hey man, do a compression test, mine was 120 on 2 cylinders, 240 on the other two, that means cracked ringlands pretty much, plus i was getting lots of oil blowby, out the exhaust, out the breather... dont drive the car untuned man! take a boost pipe off to drive to the dyno.. my motor is done... and that was tuned, hopefully you will have better luck, dont sweat it yet.. and im not positive but i agree with the other dude, bottom wastegate port.. my top one vents to atmosphere..

ps. you should get a boost controller, my 7psi wastegate spring only let me make 5.5psi of boost, so if you are plannin on makin more power just get a cheap manual boost controller.. thats my 2cents, bump on the same setup man!

good luck

What's done is done. If you cracked the ringlands there's nothing else you can do at this point. Just do a compression check tomorrow and see what the results are.

Again, I am hoping for the best, but the h22 stock ringlands are like glass. Even on a tuned car pushing over 320whp on pump gas has seen cracked ringlands. Hitting a boost spike on a map that wasn't tuned for that turbo really has all odds against you.

Yea I have been boosted for about 8 months now (since last July). I was previously on a Greddy setup. What did you notice besides the oil? My car seems to idle fine and drive fine right now. Can you still driver yours?

hey, my setup is very similar to yours except im on a built block... I was wondering where the location of your dumptube is? I can't find a good angle for a smooth exit w/ pipes.. I'm thinking about getting a different manifold, possibly one of those beautiful ramhorn ones. (im running a log manifold as well, w/ no dumptube and just avoiding boost)

and i think you're okay if it was just a second but the comp test will tell
