so im shopping around for final drives, and contemplating a close ratio 1-2 setup. for my 2000 gsr trans.
have been looking at mfactory, and noticed there is stuff that is said to not fit "98 spec". what is the 98 spec they speak of? is it an itr trans or something?
what would the differences be between a regular and a 98 spec?
im working with a 2000 gsr trans (atleast thats what i was told it was when i boght it...so i hope it is) and am curious if it means like 98 and up fitment or something...
i emailed mfactory also....so ill post there response...i just wanted to see what everyone here had to say.

ok so anything saying 98 spec only refers to itr trans's and gsr and everything else is ok then?
any idea what the differences are?

well,on the 98 jdm itrs they have a 4.785 final drive. the gears should interchange between the 4.40 and 4.785 countershafts. i think the type r's have dual friction or cone syncro's. thats the only thing i can think of.
im sure theres a slight difference in the needle bearings that go on the inside of the first gear, from the 4.40 countershaft and the 4.785 countershaft. maybe they only make the first gear for the 4.40 as it will fit all the other hydro trannies, but if you have the 98 spec 4.7 final then they dont carry it cause of the slight difference in the shafts.
im just throwing ideas out there but from a marketing standpoint, its probably not efficent to buy all the tooling and produce a gear made for one specfic tranny. anyway update us with the answer,im kinda curious as well

but you would think if you bought one of the 98 spec final drives, then they would have a 98 spec first gear to match?
i dunno its weird, im interested to see as well.

well thats what i was saying. most of mfactorys stuff fits multiple trannies, easy to make your money back on initial costs.
i wouldnt be practial to make a 1st gear for the 4.7 as it will fit only that, and most people dont upgrade them. they are already a step ahead with the 4.7 so people leave them alone.
i think you will be fine on the gears,i think they just meant the 98 spec type r]hopefully anyway. i wonder if they make that same gear for cable trannies?

The '98 spec we refer to is the JDM/EUDM '98 Integra Type-R with the oem 4.785 FD. This uses a different fitment 1st gear, hence our 1st gear will not fit.
Our 1st gear will fit all other B-Series Hydro Trannies fine as they all use the same fitment
