Default Tranny issues, Shifting incorrectly

I posted this earlier but I was wrong

When I shift into the reverse area, the car goes forward meaning its in 4th gear instead of reverse. Reverse lights DONT come on but, no matter how far I try to find reverse, its a no go.

Also

In the section where 1 and 2 are, I hear the clicks, but no go
its only when I shift to 3rs gear area that the car goes.

so

1st and 2nd, empty
3rd is first
4th is second
5th is third
reverse is 4th

or

1 = 0 3= 1 5= 3

2= 0 4= 2 reverse= 4

does this make sense? I know some people said it may be a tranny issue, how can I know for sure? Is this fixable or do I need a new tranny? Shift linkage?

Have you inspected the linkage and bushings? You gotta do the obvious stuff before you post.
