There's a link. The car in the DIY isn't an Si, but it's the same procedure. Just, the oil filter in the Si is a pain in the a$$ to get to. A trick I learned, is to take some sandpaper and grip it on the filter to loosen it, but not all of the way. I have a filter wrench, but I really don't feel like taking the wheel off to change my oil, and the sandpaper trick works great. Then take a bag (I use a walmart bag) and put it over the filter and unscrew the filter all of the way. The bag will catch most of the oil, and keep most of it off of the car. Also, replace your crush washer. There is mixed feedback over whether or not replace it, but the washer costs like .25 at the dealer, so what can it hurt.

I hope you dispose of that oil properly...

Yeah it sucks trying to reach the filter but its not so bad once you do it a time or two. I have heard good things about royal purple, and its probably better than what the last yahoo put in the car... so i say go for it. My personal preference however is mobil 1 synthetic... mmm stuff runs smooth.

The Royal Purple is nice. Car idled quieter and ran very smooth. I only used it for one oil change and then switched to Torco

Yes of course. I actually have a 5 gallon bucket that I put of all my oil used in. I made a screen for the top of it to catch anything. I drain the filters on top of that screen. When I use the bag, I just place it, inside out, on the screen and it pretty much drains all of that oil. I throw away the bag, and when the bucket is full, I bring it down to Advance Auto, where they dispose of it.

There is no real reason to use royal purple when simple off the shelf oils are cheaper, and offer similar (if not better) performance.

I've always seen it as a boutique oil for people with muscle cars. There really isn't anything special about it.

Don't care enough to argue so I agree to disagree with you.

More importantly, does anyone know the interval to change the Purple? I've been told by some to just go by the oil gauge in our FGs, and told by others that since it is a synthetic i don't have to change it as often as the others.

Your thoughts?

Did you know the Earth rotates around the sun at 18.61 miles per SECOND??

How does a household hazardous waste benefit a lawn. All you're gonna do is contaminate the water system.

And don't expect even your grandchildren to successfully raise those baby carrots. BARREN is the first word to come to mind.

From auto to agriculture. Focus people: how long before royal purple refills???

Someone obviously has not seen fight club.

(of course I know you have to dispose of oil properly and not fertilize your lawn with it)

in th is case i guess i should just go with what the gauge tells me. Its supposed to be a top notch oil, and i don't hit v-tech constantly, so i guess changing it earlier isn't really all that nesseccary.

I've used RP since 5000 miles when I did my first oil change. I change it every 5000 miles, my indicator is usually at 30% or 40%.

With this type of driving i would say 6k miles would be Perfect. if you hit vtec alot i would say change it about at 5k.

Anything under 5k using synthetic oil is a waste of energy

Cool. One last thing:

What are the intervals that our oil monitors are set to?

Ex:
100 - 0% = _____ miles driven

I have both the motor oil and tranny fluid and I can't feel squat in performance gains. Must be too small for me to notice.
