Default New sohc or sit on it

well i just recently got a EK hatch, midori green, pretty good but it has a lot of mileage..187,000 to be exact. So my question is should i swap that darn thing, it runs fine but i worry about it. I was thinking of just putting in a Y8 but it'll probably run me 500-750 for everything.
If i just replace old pistons and stuff and just mate a Y8 head will it be feel like its at 100k miles?
thanks

it depends on the quality of the parts and tranny, motor mounts, suspension bushings for a car to "feel" like a newer car.

Forget that! What you need is an H or K!

Build an engine on the side and in the mean time, just run your current one into the ground. If the engine has been maintaned, there's no reason it shouldn't last at least another 50k miles.

if you want to, get a simple b16a2 motor and tranny may run u around 1200-1400 for a good motor thats from a dealer. so all together your not spending that much and itll be fun to mod in the future. k is to much maybe if it was my DD id choose my opionion. not trying to change thoughts

What are your plans for the car? If you want more power I would swap it out. If it's a commuter like mine is, just keep the oil changed and it should be fine. My little y7 has 183k on it and I haven't had any problems with it at all, other than minor tune-up stuff. And I have driven that bish 350 miles a week to work and back for the past 5 years.

If you are really interested in the engines performance, build another motor to swap in at a later date... Dont bother with the current motor, anything you do will only hurt resale value if you change your mind.

Just build another single cam on the side. Make a mean SOHC turbo setup

Just run it til it dies, because even if you change the engine you still have plenty of other reliability issues with a car that has that many miles. Bearings of all kinds (wheel, throwout, tranny, alternator, etc) can go out on you. Unless you're going to do everything, don't worry about it and just fix things as they break.

And keep the Y7. I have a '00 EX with a Y8 and the rod bearings were going at 80k miles. Y8s are notorious for rod bearings and are just a headache.

The longest lasting cars are those that have been daily-driven and have regular manitenance done to them. Like others have said, run it till it craps out and in the mean time rather up a simple Z6 or Y8 swap for it.

Good luck!

thanks guys! i appreciate all the comments and opinions. I guess I'll just run the car as it is right now and find a y8 over summer or when i am more financially stable.

I thought about it and the car really doesn't need too much power. I only plan to take it to the canyons on the weekends (every) haha so suspension/tires or more important to me.
