what are your reasons for not liking power steering?? if there is a reason that applies to me that out weighs the good of power steering i am sure i will change my mind, basically the only downfall i have is the suffering of getting the car out of a tight parking spot at 7 in the morning

The OP has a non-US market model. If he lives in Europe, they park their cars like sardines in a tin can over there and I can feel his pain.
OP, if your car is LHD, try to get accessories from a USDM hatch (they came with P/S as an option), I'm not sure if the steering rack from the sedan is the same as the hatch.
Or if your car is RHD, just source and EDM or JDM unit.

I just swapped the power steering rack in my sedan for the manual one that was in my hatch. I don't see the point of power steering in our cars, i love the manaul rack personaly. In my opinion way more trouble/work than the gains, especialy since i can't think of any gains.

So.... the hatch and sedan steering racks are the same? There's part of your answer then.

The power and manual racks are not exactly the same. The hatch's manual rack is not as big in diameter as the sedans power one. But its an easy fix, i put a rubber ring (hard to explain without seeing) to go around it to make up the difference and it works fine.
*footnote* If you do decide to swap to p/s you will need the whole crossmember because the power rack does not fit into the manual crossmember properly since its a larger diameter. I found this out when i tried to put ther power one back on my std hatch.

Ahh, the never ending PS vs. Non PS debate. I also vote for PS, Driving a Non PS car just makes it feel like a bucket of sh*t to me. When I was younger, I also thought that Non PS was all the rage.

really? when i had ps in my hatch (especially when it was cold) my steering wheel felt like it was stiring a slushy machine with large chunks of ice in it.

I prefer power steering. Especially if you plan on having wide tyres. tramlining + no PS = crazy.
I just think it makes the car feel like the light nimble car it was created to be.
Your P/S rack will also have less turns lock to lock then a non power steering rack.

it will add about thirty pounds to your car and make your engine turn another pump the powersteering for these cars was not the best but some people like it and it does make street parking less of a hassle. so really 6 of one half a dozen of another.

Not really, it was just because the fluid was thick. Could it have benefited from flushing the fluid through? Probably. But still, it wasn't that hard to turn, but not really any easier than manual steering.
OP: If you swap your car to power steering with a 1.2 liter engine, it'll half your horsepower. (exaggeration)

The P/S crossmember can fit a manual rack but a manual rack can not fit a P/S crossmember, hence why when I added the Quaife manual I not only had to change the rack I had to change out the crossmember.

Thanks for the clarification, Dr Latino...So in order to install a P/S rack to a non P/S car, you must also install a P/S crossmember?....I think that's what you are saying....Thanks again for some good info........
