Well first i wanna say im new here but have been reading posts for a long time on here.I have always found info that i've needed to fix all my problems, so thanks. I know have a question that i need some advice with.I have a 92 cx with a h22 swap that needs some tranny work done.How hard is it to pull out the tranny with out the motor.I know its a tight fit but pretty sure it can be done.Any one have any experience with this particular job any ifo. would be greatly appreciated.Thanks HT!

H22 transmissions are tricky. My best advice would be to take pictures of your every step, label and take your time. Although time consuming, yes, it does help in the long run and prevents complications that could otherwise result from not doing so.

From personal experiance, the h22 transmission will have to come out at a wiered angle, as well as go in at a wiered angle. Make sure when you are moving the trans around to get it off/back in, not to put alot of stress on the input shaft/mesh teeth.

Other than that, no real advice. Try and grab a step-step write up for doing this as well, if your unsure.

 

id guess the same way you take any other trans out. jack the motor up, kinda tight. unbolt the starter, linkage, stabalizer, slave cylinder, mounts, and trans. lower the motor enough for the tranny to clear and big boy it out of the bottom.

dont forget the dust plate

 

drain the trans, pop axles out, take off linkage, lay a pipe from your rad support to the firewall, wrap a chain around that and arund the dist to hold up the motor. ubolt the starter, the torque mount, rear mount, frame rail mount and pop off the trans. it might be easier if you take the red out completely since the h trans is so big

 

Thanks!Thats was a good tip about the angle may be tricky to manuever off/on while laying down under the car.I really just want to make sure it can be done with motor still in car.A local shop told me they would have to pull both which was 10 hrs. @70hr. so i just needed a lil first hand info.Thanks and keep em comin! From what I just read you should be able to do it all yourself. But the reassembly back onto the block is the most difficult part, especially with no hoist. Definitely a 2-person job!

Just follow the steps that are listed above, take pics. you will be fine. everything is kinda hard the first time. you will feel like a pro after the first time.

 

pulling a tranny is a simple process, the hard part is the fact that the tranny is in a car....

and you do not want a chiltons manual, they're *****, helms my friend.

 

Thanks peoples!Could'nt remember the name of the book, i got a haynes its not worth a *****.Helms it is! Where can i buy one of these would be great to have.
