Default Intake filter

I'm currently at 15,000 miles and still stock (sad, I know, but paying off my car makes more sense to me than modding right now), but it's about time I change my air filter and I've been researching some good filters (considering performance, reliability, and price). Now it's basically a choice between A'pexi power intake and K&N.

K&N drop-in filter: $45, with little to no performance gain (though they claim 15% more HP...ridiculous), good filtration

K&N SRI: $260, claimed 7 HP, good filtration

A'pexi power intake: $85, universal intake (not sure if it'll fit stock), good filtration

I haven't heard a lot about A'pexi air filters on honda-tech, but I found this off of 8thCivic http://www.8thcivic.com/forums....html Again I want reliabiltiy, performance and price (cheap, keep in mind my car is stock). Please discuss

you could get an injen CAI for $260. IMO that's the best bet! if you don't have the $ go for the K&N unless you want some HP but just an intake really doesn't make alot of power by itself. you did post something about GOAL WHP a few days ago if im correct. don't go cheap save for the good stuff good luck!

Naw...that wasn't me...no post about goal whp. I forgot to mention that I don't want CAI, because I live in Utah (lots of precipitation), hence the choices I put out. Oh, and obviously WHP is not my only concern, reliability is, hence the filtration research I've been doing. Thanks for the input though.

I think I'm leaning more towards the A'pexi, because of it's filtration without sacraficing "performance," or air intake, I should say. I'm kind of skeptic about the install since it's "universal." Shouldn't be hard though, probably just a filter.

+1 on doing good research. Many engines wear over time because filtration sucks and dirt goes inside you engine and to your bearings. !
thats why im keeping my intake box s.t.o.c.k

It's cool, not offended or anything.

So are you using an OE filter? K&N? I believe the OEM filtration is better than K&N, but I wish I could compare OEM vs A'pexi

i would go for the K&N drop in if your worried about what bulli said about dirt gettin into your engine over time. it would take a very long imo to get dirt and stuff into your engine with the drop in.

if you looking for more performance gains, i'd go with the X-Intake. best intake for the Si right now. its a short ram so no worries.

other wise the usual injen or AEM short ram

I heard that a guy got the Xintake and dynoed his car and only gained 3 HP. he complained about it to Xintake and he (X) fixed it somehow. but you will have to wait a wial before you get it he's backed up. I would give it a try for sure!
