altenator problems

ok i was sitting in idle and smelled something melting and the black wire running to the altenator was glowing red and now the car lights are dimming so does that mean it is broke

It may be shorting out on something, try replacing it. I've never came across this before.

does it have anything to do with checking your engine codes with the wire you now counting the codes i did that before it starting happing

Just replace the wire it sounds like its bad
