Any Exhaust System tips for a noob?
Hey all,
I have a 1993 Honda Prelude SI that desperately needs a new exhaust system. When I say desperately, I mean DESPERATELY. Since I'm an idiot and have no idea what I'm doing, I thought I'd ask the experts here on Honda-tech. So, this is what I'm looking for:
1. Since I'm a broke college student, it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyways) that I need parts that are reliable and reasonably priced, but not neccessarily cheap, since I don't mind spending a bit more for something that 's worth it.
2. I need EVERY PART of the exhaust system. What all those parts are, I have no clue whatsoever. This was my cousin's car before he gave it to me, and he's a moron. Instead of fixing this car up, he went out and bought a Jeep Wrangler. How the hell do you go from a Prelude to a Wrangler? Sorry, I'm ranting... Back to the point. So I'll basically need an entire system to replace the crappy, rattling one I have now.
3. I don't really need all that much more power, and I definitely don't want my car to be heard from 3 blocks away. Something relatively quiet with a modest power boost is ideal for me.
Well, that's about it. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I don't really know all the things I'll need. Thanks!

Well your right your cuz is a bit on of a retard for buying a jeep.
The "whole exhaust system" would be headers, cat. converter, and a cat-back exhaust system.
I would have to say to get a ceramic DC sport header(the ceramic headers will help keep the heat done under the hood), a High flow cat., and the Apexi WS2 cat-back system(it's stock looking, not loud but has a nice tone).
Yes it will be pricey if you buy all of them at once, but get a piece at a time if you have to.

Thanks for you help 23series. Hoprefully I can buy it piece by piece, but I don't really know how long all the other components will last.
Well you can go to any muffler shop and they'll replace your piping for a decent price. Nothing after-market but a good stock replacement.
And another tip is to use the red search button. There's some good info there too.

If you dont have the cash ( i know what its like too ), i would recommend you get a muffler shop to just fix and replace any damaged part from the headers back to the cat as standard oem setup, and then just get a cat back muffler system from the many brands previously mentioned, the only one i would add to the list to check out is powerflow cat back muffler setups, i have one and no probs with it. Not loud but has a nice note when you get the car going a bit, its got a low deep nice rumble.

If you dont have the money to fix the car buy a bus ticket. Youll be kicking yourself in the *** if you take out a loan just so you can have an exhaust. And being in college is not an excuse. I went through my college without a car. It was tough but I got around.

if you aren't going to add any helpful information just go to the next thread. Trying to put people down that are just looking for suggestions is absolutely ridiculous. I am sick of your post whoring

Thanks for all your help guys. I think I'm going to see the price difference between a new OEM system vs something that the aftermarket can provide. Hopefully, the difference won't be huge and I can get a sweet cat-back system
Goodluck with it man. Just do what you can for now. As long as she is running youll be right. The way i look at it is if you have a prelude thats the most important thing: you can mod it as much or as little as you want down the track when you do have some cash. By the way depending on which cat back system you get you will most likely get an increase in torque and power but it will only be very mild, dont expect too much.
