Looking to buy an RSX-S
I own a 97 Honda Civic CX and I'm looking to upgrade pretty soon.
I want to get an 02-04 RSX-S since it's both luxurious and sporty at the same time. I've found a couple which are around 13,000 with decent miles.
For those of you who own one these, I have a couple of questions.
1. What the diff. between the base model RSX and RSX-S?
2. How reliable are they?
3. How much is maintenance and parts?
4. How do they react to mods? I've heard some people get a CEL after adding an intake.
5. What should I look out for when inspecting one?
Thanks! I appreciate any responses.

1. Get the Type S! That’s all there is to it.
2. It’s a Honda...its going to last just keep and eye out for the transmission.
3. Again it’s a Honda so decent priced and Mods are everywhere...You get what you pay for...
4. The K20 reacts very well to mods. Its an awesome engine to do forced introduction or if your looking at just bolt ons it puts out awesome numbers...
5. I’m not sure so look at what other people post.
Cant go wrong with the K20/DC5/RSX-S
Just my .02
Good luck!

1. The base RSX has the K20A3 motor (160 hp) and is offered with either an automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. The Type-S, on the other hand, has a K20A2 (200 hp) and a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission.
This somewhat gives us a clue that the Type-S model is a better buy than a Base model. It's not just about the motor and transmission it offers, it's also the suspension/handling wise of the car.
Search for more information, I don't want to get deep into it as there really is no point. I've heard many Base owners wanting to trade it in for a Type-S simply because of what it has to offer. A whole different package.
2. If you keep up with all of the maintenence and such, it can last very long.
3. Acura Dealers offers decent prices. No need to worry about that, it can all be taken care of by them.
4. With a good I/H/E combo and some tuning, you can easily obtain 250 hp (somewhere around there) with not a single problem. On a B-Series, on the other hand, one would have to do more than that to reach those kind of numbers.
5. Clean title, low miles, not heavily modded, a pristine interior, and exterior. In other words, someone who took real good care of it when it was on their hands. I know I left a lot out, but I'm sure others will chime in and finish answering this question.

I love the car, sexy rims! But I'm looking for something with lower miles. Hoping to own the car for a 3+ years.

Definitely go for the Type-S.
I drive a 2001 Civic EX with mods, and found a sweet deal on a Type-S.
I bought the RSX today, and it's a night and day difference.
200hp>130hp, not to mention the 6spd and suspension differences..
The biggest kicker for me... I got it with 57k on the clock for $11k OTD..
Clean title, clean Carfax, bone stock,
sweet condition.
me FTW lol
Actually Type-S FTMFW

I've been looking to get one for a while now, on and off, but for most if not all of the people I've asked for on opinions, they tell me not to get an RSX or RSX Type S. Why? They told me it was a girls car. That the majority of drivers are girls. True? I dont know. I've seen a couple girls drivers but the majority guys.
And whats a decent price for a used Type S? 12k-13k?

A girl's car? lolol
Sounds like you're talking to some small minded individuals.
$12-13k sounds like the average price, depending on mileage.
I go by KBB.com for used car values. You just gotta type in the mileage, specs, and condition of the vehicle.

And that's preventing you from getting one? Wow.
And that's preventing you from getting one? Wow.
Price, as always, depends upon year, mileage and condition. You can't compare an 02 to a 06, obviously.
For instance, my Type-S that I'm selling--the dealer was listing a similar 04 for 18,900 (but with more miles) because they are in demand in my area. I think they ended up taking $18,000 for it. So, I priced mine accordingly.
