Are rods worth it ???
I'm debating on getting a set of lightweight rods or not...If I get a set, I only want a good strong set, so Carillo, Pauter, or Manley...Is it worth it for a simple 81mm build ??? What will I gain with lightweight rods vs stock ls rods ???
SETUP:
GSR block w/ls crank 81mm 12:1 Wiseco
GSR head ferrea valve train (no pnp)
SK2 Stage2 Cams
SK2 Pro Manifold

ls rods are pretty reliable up to 300whp. so that won't be an issue. i'm guessing lightweight rods would help with the rotating mass but i would personally say the gains are minimal and not worth it.
depends on your budget... but I like the maxi-lites from Crower. I have held them in my hands and didn't want to give them back!!
There's more to it than just strength, I imagine the weight reduced from the 2nd heaviest moving bit on the bottom end would do a lot for response.... something very difficult for a dyno and for the wallet to justify.
It's along the lines of why I have an ATS super single carbon clutch for my sub 200whp setup. The quick engagement, response and overall character of the car is transformed.... the camp is split 50/50 with those wondering what I was sniffing when I purchased it...while the other 50% is looking to run something similar because they've either had a chance to drive it or understand what it was I was trying to express.

I 100% agree with that.
If you don't have rods now and are looking for one of the best, Carillo is hard to beat. If you already have ls rods then get arp rood bolts and call it a day.
