Default Tire shop+Volks+idiot= trashed wheel. Help identify the color please.

Sorry, I am garbage with distinguishing small differences in color. What the hell color is this? It's either Gunmetal, Titanium Silver, or Mercury Silver. I don't remember the color and Jeremy (owner of the shop) is buying me another one.

These guys have been doing my wheels for years without a single issue but they had a random idiot working the machine today and he laid waste to my lip, three huge gouges and more scratches than Ricky Bobby driving with a cougar. I am trying to get the information to order another one but I lack the color. A little help from some of you guys would be great.

I talked to Francis at Aspec already, haven't called Mackin simply because I don't know the damn color myself. The colors they have listed on mackins site (with pictures) I "think" are Ti silver and it doesn't match mine however I know someone here will know the color and save me the embarrassment of ordering the wrong color and ending up riding on a scarred one for 6 months while I wait for the right one to show up.

NC tire shop workers = 2nd grade mental capacity

Even the managers seem to be idiots around here.

Hope this all gets worked out.

Your telling me man. I run my tires to the point of unsafe simply because I am scared to hand over my nice wheels to the people who change them.

I think I am about to become Rota/Konig/Drags #1 supporter. Had these cost 100 bucks each, this would have NEVER happened just because that's my luck lol.

And now I bow to my own retardation. I didn't even think that. Thanks man, I appreciate the help.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time, I have to leave Monday morning to go to Ok for 7 weeks and I was finishing up what I had to do before leaving this morning AKA new tires, oil change, state inspection, normal maintenance prior to driving 1400 miles. Then this happens when I am LOW on time for getting it taken care of. Thanks for the help man.

Yes they are.

Sucks because it's a hell of a long wait to get another one.

Crappy pics, my wife has my good camera in Texas at her parents house this week. The little circles in the first and third pics are actually holes it went so deep. There is chunked up metal at the end of each of them. I haven't measured but I would guess they are at least 1/8 inch deep.

is the tire shop gonna replace it?

Volks are reverse mount so the face goes down, I don't know how it's "supposed" to be done hence why I didn't do it myself but you can bet your *** I will learn now. The only thing I can't do on a car is an alignment and tire changes just because I worked next to a shop that did it, we exchanged labor so I never had to do my own.

The shop is replacing it though, he didn't even ask questions. Just said "that's bullshit, I won't let that slide. Tell me where to get it and a contact number, I will have you one on the way today". Good guy and I have used them forever. Just had a new guy who was clueless today.

I have never seen a tire shop mount the tires with the face of the wheels down on the machine.

some rims are reverse mount as mentioned.. but you are suppose to clamp them from the outside of the lip with a plastic protector... not use the machine and clamp it from the inside.... i use outside clamps, with plastic protectors AND blue shop towels.

I feel your pain. I sent my MKIII-S wheels in to get custom colored and when they were done I took them to a shop to get the tires mounted and they fucked them all up

Damn what a retarrd. How do you not have the common sense of being careful with somethigng especially when you can tell it's kept in a very nice condition. Jesus christ, and to reverse mount it but clamp them from the inside out ONTO the lip??? WTF?.. Idiot. They obviosly wheren't looking out on what the new guy was doing.

i never use the protector on the bar... because i never let the bar ride on the rim. but all of the other protectors are a musttt ...esp the beat breaker protector..just incase of slippage

Definately. You can't really tell by the pics if he used the protector on the bar though because that would show damage on the face of the lip. By what's shown in the pics you can tell it was reverse mounted but clamped from the inside out, onto the lip.

Threads like this make me glad I work in an environment that allows me to mount/balance my own wheels. I've seen some retarded things over the years done by the general service/tire guys so this doesn't surprise me at all. Always use rags with a Reverse mount, ALWAYS. Unless you have one of the new fancy Coats mag machines...then I hate you.
