Default How would i add on an extra temp sensor to my coolant system?

Ive got an overheating problem. My dad is convinced that my gauge is reading wrong. He wants to buy a cheap autozone gauge and temporarily hook it up and go for a drive and see if it reads different from my cluster. Im convinced that my radiator is clogged, but he is hardheaded and this is the only way he will be convinced my cluster is right. is it possible?

the temp sensor needs to be put in the path of the coolant flow. if you have an after market rad in the car most have a place to an extra temp sensor.

instead of doing all that work, why don't you take a voltage meter and test the sensor itself. this way will determine a more accurate conclusion.

also, there are other things that can cause a car to overheat. if the gauge is reading that the car is overheating then chances are there is nothing wrong with the sensor. usually when the sensor goes bad, it will not read at all or hesitate to read.

have you checked your thermostat? is your fans turing on? how about relays? radiator cap? water pump? headgasket?

exactly what is the car doing?
