Need Some Advice!
Hello all. I am a noob to the forum and need some advice from other Prelude owners. I am looking at buying a 1997 Base Prelude (Leather seats, moonroof) for my 16 year old son. I have not had a chance to drive it yet since they just got it in on trade. The thing looks flawless with just a few paint chips that the dealership will fix. They are asking $6850. What do you think of the price? Also, it has 156,000 miles on it so what should I be on the look out for when I take it our for a test drive Saturday. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That's a good amount of miles, but that may or may not be a bad thing. Price sounds OK for the body being very good.
Is it a manual? The auto trannies have issues...
You would probably want to replace the ignition switch and timing belt if you are not positive they have been done recently.

That is false look the price up in Kelly Blue Book, than add 1000 bucks on top of that price, that should give you a little info.
Hondas have good rep for High miles. It could probally go to 300k easy depending on how well it was maintained before in the past, and how well it is maintained in the future.
I paided 4500, for a 92 lude with 113k. 1000 bucks over the asking price, it was well worth it.

Price seems ok to me for the miles it has on it. Give it a thorough lookin over once you drive it off the block. Check the underside especially and look for any damage or evidence of a major fix up job. Best advice is to take it to your local mechanic and let him give it a good looking over if you dont know much about cars. At least then you can make the decision to purchase knowing what condition the prelude really is in. And yes in my experience Hondas can run alot of miles as long as you give it regular services, and definately follow hawkzes advice and replace the timing belt if you dont know when it was last replaced. Hope this helps, goodluck with it.
Thanks all for the inputs. It is an automatic tranny. What have been the issues with them? The folks at the Honda dealership who is selling the car said the owner was **** was far as maintenance and they would show me them on Saturday. I will definitely look under the car and see if there is anything there. The car is really sweet looking and does not show the 156K she has on her.
