Default 1994 Accord routine front brake and bearing job .....it started off SO easy !

I just love it when what should be a simple job escalates into a problem :-)

The project started off as a routne change out of front pads and rotors. Yeah, the sandwiched rotors are a PITA but not really all that bad if you're accustomed to a little light suspension dismantling.

While I had everything apart I found that the front hub bearings were getting rough. Not horrible, but it seemed a shame not to replace them while I had everything torn down. This is where the fun begins......

When pressing the bearings off the hubs part of the bearing stayed behind ! Ths would be the inner/bottom part that the rollers ride on. I couldn't separate the remaining part of the bearing from the hub for love nor money. There's no lip or gap to grab hold of, the material is too hard to cut with a hacksaw, heating/cooling did nothing. I ended up buying new hubs.

Anyhow, I mention all this only in hopes that a more experienced Honda guy who might be reading this can suggest something that might help smeone else avoid this problem in the future.

I did this in my HS Auto shop. I used the press to first press out the bearing. Then I to that off that part, _______ I used a special tool. It looked something like a <(Fit stuck part here)> Where instead of pointy, it is more circular. Anyways jam that between the stuck part and the hub, and press it out. Works like a charm.

Sorry for the bad explanation.

The-Kid--- It is a bearing seperator and yeah they are killer for that. Work like a dream.

If no seperator available..... Or you don't feel like being that quiet.

I usually just use a cut-off wheel and cut it kind of cross ways. Wack it with a hammer and it will fall off. Or you can use an air chisel and pop it off. Use a curved flat tipped chisel on it and wam bam thankyou mam. Just be careful not to let it slip and nick the hub surface. If you do and you grind it smooth more than likely in a few thousand miles you'll spin an inner race. Just my experience...
