Painted brake calipers
Hey guys, I have a couple of questions. The guy that owned my car before me had the calipers painted red. First off, I kind of like them red, but mine are chipping and are kind of dull. Can I just repaint them red, or do I have to strip them and then paint them again. What kind of paint should I use and where can I get it. My goal is to have bright red calipers that shine. Is there any shops that have powder coated calipers that I can buy and then send them my calipers? What are your thoughts on painted calipers? Thanks for any input.
As I understand, if your car sees alot of track use, then you don't want to do this, because it keeps additional heat in your calipers... Others may say it's ricey... I dunno...
I think Porshe calipers are shiny red. But I think the ITR wheels and disks are too small for them to fit
On a serious note though, red looks nice on some, but it can be considered "ricey" so watch out.

It is probably best to strip away the old paing first before painting over them again or you will be doing this anually.
Before sanding the damn things down, see if brake cleaner will strip the paint away. Afterall, its brake cleaner. It can't hurt the rotors or calipers, but if it takes some paint away, that is less work you have to do later.
Good luck.

I say chrome them. Bling bling!
I wouldn't repaint painted calipers - they will look like ***.
Take them off, get them stripped and repainted.

well, I think Im gonna strip the paint off the calipers and leave it, but that leaves me with some other questions, how do I strip the paint off the calipers, sandblast them? once the paint is stripped, do I have to apply a sealer so the calipers wont rust? This is fustrating, should I buy new calipers and just throw the old ones away?
the foliatec stuff is overpriced for what you get. about a year ago i painted mine with VHT high-temp paint and it's held up great. plus, it only costs about $7 for a can--you need two cans so that's a total of $14 which definately beats the $50 foliatec price.

hope this helps
I've been thinking about this for a while...
if calipers are aluminum, why not have them anodized? anodizing won't keep the heat it, and it is pretty durable.
Anyone tried it?

If you're serious about it I have a pair of front ITR brake calipers that I'm never going to use, hopefully, and have been thinking about selling them. Let me know if you're interested.
