Default attn type r owners....possible stolen engine/ fake r in my car?

ok, heres the deal....
i bought a supposedly 2000 b18c5 from a local honda swap shop here in bham.
the b18c5 and id number was shaved off the block.
theres no vin numbers.
now the only thing i have is an id number in the head itself.
is there a way to get any information off of the head id number?????????
i want to know that i have a legit motor.
any help would be cool.

Dart is a company that makes Aftermarket honda blocks and heads .

you have a stolen motor ,
i suggest you drive to the police station and drop it off .

you have to ask yourself, what would be the reason to "shave" the ID code on the block.......... and the fact that the VIN is missing too.... why would you do that? Only ONE reason really comes to mind, and we're all thinking it.

well, i bought the engine from the "dealer" about 9 months ago.
i knew the block was shaved, but i could of sworn the vin # was still there.
now i have tons of people telling me its fishy looking.
i comfronted the guy and he argues with me that "i ve had the engine for 9 months. i knew about the shaved block code. "
i just want to know wtf i have in my car.

Do you still have the receipt? If so, photocopy it and keep the copy in the car at all times.

So he acknowledges that he sold you a motor with the VIN tag removed and with the block code shaved off? Have him write you up a receipt stating that and then go to the police. I think you should tell us all the name of this shop so that none of us do business with them

haha, well see here in alabama we do not need vin numbers and such due to no DOT inspections.
and plus i dont think you guys in cali will buy **** from this douch anyways. lol
plus this was the 1st time i purchased a motor. i wasnt really educated at the time. now i know a little more im trying to either get another legit "r" motor from him or get my $$ back...
thats if my engine is wack.

So you're saying that its legal to buy stolen motors in alabama? I think not. If a cop pulls you over, pops your hood, and sees that you're missing the VIN tag and no block stamp for the motor that doesn't come stock in your car, he's just gonna say "oh well we don't have inspections here"

and everyone else on honda-tech isn't in cali, so i'm sure posting up the shops name and this douches name will help

i have asked him.
he told me the name of the owner and i asked several people and they said that it was the owner and it was a type r.
but it seems fishy.
and im not saying its a stolen motor.......
i want to know IF its stolen.
or,if i can get ANYTHING from the head stamp.
is theres another number hidden on, or in the block?

yeah it's shady as F@#$. but lets be honest. asking him to for fit his motor that he supposedly paid for is asking a little much. if the police seize his motor what is he supposed to do? go threw his insurance and pay X number of dollars of his deductible to get a legit motor? if i were in his shoes i would want to get to the bottom of this too but i donno (having dealt with police) if i would want to sacrifice all the time and passably extra $$$ seeing that he does have a receipt.

I'm not condoning this in any way but i see where he would be hesitant

hope everything works out

We need more info, if you have the name of the owner then post it. There is a good possibility that someone may know the previous owner or ask the shop owner for contact info for the previous owner. Post the name of the shop too, as already stated we dont all live in cali....only the showcars are there. There is alot more you should be doing to track down your info instead of posting here.

Then why go through the effort to shave useless info off?

Your motor is NOT too legit to quit.

well to add a lil more drama to this situation, the shop where this swap came from also put a d series TB on the car, one of the bolt holes on the trans torque mount was stripped out, engine to trans bracket was missing, also he paid 6700 dollars for this "usdm type r" with a b16 one leg wonder tranny a dc 4-2-1 junk header and hondata s100 tuned and it only made 156hp before it was retuned by a different shop then it rolled with 166hp after the retune it all seems bad and i hate for this guy because he's a stand up guy and didnt know any better
