Default Ticking

searched. i took my car for a valve adjustment to a honda technician becuase it began ticking after an oil change at 150,000 miles. after the adjustment the car sounds the same, he said he even tightened them a 2nd time a little tighter to see if the noise went away and it didnt. he says its from wear on the rocker arms? this doesnt sound too convincing. can he be correct or should i take it back to be tightened more? Also, the tick in minimal and it speeds up as i rev it higher. any advice would help. thanks

well when i got mine adjusted the 1st time some old man on the shop did it i was watching the whole time. when i turned it on, it sounded the same and he was like the ticking is gone... so i talked to the boss of the shop and he told the old man that i wasnt an old lady he could lie to. all of this in spanish so it sounds alot more funny... either way if your engine has 150k miles the valve rockers are probaly a little wasted so what i did was tell him to put it smaller then what the manual said. when he did so, the ticking whent away a huge deal and the car didnt misfire so everything was set good. so if you want tell him to put it tighter i think 10 mm is stock right? if so i did it at 6MM and the bigger number one at 8 MM its on the hood of your car the valve numbers.

not really, My h23 had 200,000 miles and didnt tick, if you change your oil every 3000 miles or less you wont have this problem till way over 200,000miles.

thanks for the advice. i will ask how much more he tightened them. he said he didnt wanna go tighter because it might cause the car to misfire, even thought its misfiring at the moment. and ever since i got it at 130,000 ive been changing my oil at 3,000 with mobil 1. hopefully tighter will fix the problem and maybe fix the misfire. thanks again

remember to only adjust the valves when the motor is completely cold! Otherwise it WILL be off.
