Default Check Engine Light : 1996 Accord

Check Engine Light on for 3 months. No driveability issues with the car at this time. Codes on pulled from the computer are P0700 (A/T Failure) and P0740 (TC Clutch Failure). VSS Value on Freeze data is 73MPH and the recommendation is that the PCM be replaced.

Has anyone run into this scenario? Is it likely that the PCM is the problem or could the tech be guessing? Also, could a used PCM from a junked Accord be used for replacement?

Thank you for any help or suggestions!

My check engine light came on as well on my 97 Accord. I disconnected the battery for about 2 minutes, reconnected the battery and haven't seen the light since. It's been about 4 months. I did have to reprogram a code into my factory radio/cd unit, but only because it has some anti-theft feature. It's worth a try.

There is a Honda TSB out that is dated July, 28 1998 that states.

If VSS freeze frame failure is between 63 and 75mph (Repair procedure A)

Repair Procedure A:
Replace PCM with updated unit

If you can give me the first 8 of your VIN and your trim level I can give you the Replecement part number. You might be able to find one at a junkyard. You need to get an updated unit. You might have to do some digging.

Pm me the vin and trim info, i'll hook ya up.
