Anyone running in HC races and IT races?
Yes, there are a bunch of us who run both Honda Challenge and Improved Touring. Most cars can swing both but there are some differences in the rule sets that require you to change your setup if you want to be competitive in both. Improved Touring has stricter rule regarding shifters, flywheels, wheel width, interior items and ECU/Distributor. Some cars also run at a heavier weight then in Honda Challenge. My H5 CRX runs at 2000 pounds where as with IT it runs at 2130 pounds.
The biggest difference between the two is that IT has open tires and HC is Spec Tire.

Sweet. I am planning on setting up my integra to run both classes (H4 and ITA). I was just curious how many people had done it and if it was managable (and competetive). Thanks.
I've done a small amount of both HC and IT fairly recently (last couple years), and the gap between the rulebooks is getting wider....If you are trying to stay legal for both leagues, you will be giving up some here and there....There's a HUGE weight difference (for civic / crx)2250lbs to 2150lbs, among other oddities in sometimes identical rulebooks....There is always one thing that one organization is allowing that the other is not. Recent examples would be: SCCA recently added computer upgrade (unlimited?)...NASA just added shock tower bars ok w/no weight penalty, etc...

Yea, it may be more of a pain than it is really worth. Maybe I will setup my integra to be competetive in one of them and still race in the other but just as practice.

Just build the car to ITA rules and it will crossover to H4 with no problems!
Good luck,

aj's right.
the biggest diff is the weight. and its easy enough to pull scca ballast when running nasa.
and if you come to the nasa nationals, its worth installing a lightened flywheel.
as zephyr said, the biggest issue is tires. HC has to be spec toyo or you can run as a non points fun event or if you are just looking for track time, run PT.
if you buy the toyos so you can run scca and HC, you will be disappointed at scca. if you buy hoosiers for scca, you cannot get points to qualify for nasa nationals for hc.
good luck.

Actually I just moved up here about a month ago. I had not really been following any of the series until I caught the racing bug recently. Congratulations man!
That's one hell of a feat. I pass Westland Car Care on my way to work everyday. It really is a small world.

just to be clear. it's not me.
but it was a heck of a feat. the moser's have been running honda for a long time. the TTU was an evo that belongs to someone that was looking for a hot shoe that knew mid-ohio. and joe was the right person.
and the evo is not mine either....

Tom,
You bet it's a small world. The gentleman who owns the Evo, called me last July and asked if I knew someone who knew Mid O very well......knowing that Joe Moser rips at Mid O (and just about anywhere he runs)...I gave him his name. I shaved a few tires for the Mosers last year and some for this year ..(a re-do of someone elses poor shave). Bob and Joe are great guys and great racers. Yep, it's a small circle we racers revolve in...a great bunch to be a part of. Oh and Tom.....not many guys can motor a Civic around like you can. Good luck this season. I'm going to have my Integra out a few times......PTA baby !!!!
