Default I can't get my shift **** off. This is ridiculous. HELP

ok, i have posted before about my shifter itself, and have been told it is an integra shifter. i just bought this 93 del sol si and this was the shifter and shift **** that was in there so i assume the integra/del sol/civic shifters must be interchangeable. there is some kind of generic metal **** on it that is not my style. i just want to take it off and put on the stock one. with every **** i've ever had on any car, i just tried to turn it counter-clockwise. it wouldnt budge. i then tried and tried. my hand is raw i was twisting so hard. i even tried going clockwise, even though i know it shouldn't loosen it going that way, and still have had no luck. is there any way to get this thing off?! this is the stupidest post i've ever made but i cannot get this **** off to save my life. the only thing i can think of is to take some kind of monkey wrench to it but i know it'll scratch the **** to pieces, and then if it still doesnt come off, i dont want the **** to be scratched up on top of me not liking it in the first place, and stil have it on there so i'd have to use it. i'm assuming since it's stuck like this, it must've been mis-threaded.

here is a pic, even though i dont think it'll help the situation...

has anyone ever had a problem like this? i know i haven't but maybe someone has. any suggestions or ideas on how to get this **** off will be greatly appreciated. sorry for the STUPID post but i ran out of ideas for this, even though it shuld be simple enough for the E-Trade baby to do.

Is there a set screw? If not, twist away, you may need a strap wrench if it's cross threaded. Good luck.

Probably the previous owner glued it in there or something.

no there is no screw in there. that was the first thing i looked for, even before i tried to twist. it's not even on there completely straight. it's off center. for example, the 1-5 and R is printed at the top. the 3 should be pointing completely north, at 12 o'clock. it is off to the left, more pointing NW at about 10 o'clock.

what is a strap wrench and how is it used? if it'll get it off, i'll definitely use it!

EDIT: i just looked up strap wrenches online. it looks like it'd work well for this situation. any ideas of where to get them other than online? i'd like to go to a local store and get one like a pep boys or sears if they sell them individually.

Haha this could be a last ditch, but if you planned on a short shifter upgrade...you could always just remove the shifter and **** together, and just replace them. Basically, if you can get another shifter cheaper than the strap wrench, that may actually make sense.

Is there a lock nut in the bottom of it, like with the Skunk2 ones as well as other aftermarket ones? Good luck man, and this definitely isnt a stupid thread. If you asked which intake will give you the most horsepower to beat your friends Mustang, it'd be a stupid thread. This is an honest problem...this type of isht happens from time to time haha.

Haha I was thinking this too. I'm sure you'd agree its not the best idea, but if you wanted to be a cool guy w/ a cut shifter...you could hack off the ****, rethread the shifter...and rock out w/ a super low **** uber tough style. Then you'd have a reason to be leaning towards the center of the car like the thugs do haha.

Either way, im sure you'll figure it out. Definitely let us know when you do, as im sure others have had this problem, or will in the future.

Heat that puppy up with a torch(even a little propane one) and use a big visegrip should do the trick.

i bet the threads were stripped and the previous owner used some sort of thread locker to get it on there.

just use some sort of rubber glove, like some people have in the kitchen...it'll give you a better grip to turn it.

if it doesn't turn i'd probably get a new shifter before trying to take it off, would suck to get it off and find the threads useless.

Advance auto parts has them. im going to go up there and try it out. they said it's for oil filters, though, so i dont know if it will become small enough for a shift ****.

IT'S OFF IT'S OFF IT'S OFF!!!!! whoever said try the rubber glove thing THANK YOU. i CANNOT believe that i got it off with just a rubber glove. i tried for 20 minutes earlier with just my hand, and my palm literally became raw and hurts so bad. i was on the phone with my girl and she was rambling about something, i wasnt paying attention, i grabbed a big *** yellow dishwashing glove, twisted it, and it came off like nothing! i dont know why i couldnt get it earlier. im not a weak guy whatsoever. i guess it's just slippery without the glove. it is not misthreaded and i dont even think he used glue. i think it may have just been on there EXTREMELY tight. i put the stock shift **** on and it's 1004590686% better.

i would've never thought to use a dishwashing glove. that is a suggestion you will only get from Honda Tech. i know this thread was dumb, and im sorry, but it was annoying me, and with this thread, i now found a solution. without this retarded thread, i would've been S.O.L. so thanks!
