Default help setting up my D2's

hey guys.

i Have an ef crx Vt (b20-vtec) and its fully polybushed , front rear cusco braces etc. It has D2 coilovers fitted and i need some help getting the ride setup.

currently its pretty hard, it handles amazingly except on every manhole cover they seem to just "smash" over them. the entire car thuds very loudly and they dont seem to absorb any of the shock, its like having suspension made of solid metal rods lol.

the previous owner had them set-up with NO spring pre-load and even on the softest dampending level it seems to only improve them a little.

i think either the spring rates are way to hard front and rear, or the coilovers are setup incorrectly.

anyone have any usefull advise on getting the correct spring rates or setting the pre-load/dampeing level??

its so rigid the car wheel level the surface going over certain bumps on the road (not a nice feeling when your going at speed lol)

I take it you are looking for a street setup with your car? If so, what are the current spring rates in the car? Also, you should know that buying dampers used is always a risky proposition unless you know what to look for. But I digress. Find out what rates you have in hand and also make sure your suspension (including the anti-roll bar(s) ) is installed correctly to make sure you don't have any bind issues. For street, a reasonably soft setup would be in the 200 to 300 lb range with straight rate race-type springs. In autocross/street maybe in the 300-400 lb/in range would be a good compromise. For dedicated race car 400 to 550 lb fronts and 550 to 850 lb rears are commonly used. The size and type of anti-roll bar will affect what spring rates will work best for any given application.

thanks.

the coilovers came on the car when i got it. it was really bouncey and crashy on the rear.

spring rates are the standard D2 reccomended settings, which are 11kg front and 7 kg rear.
anyway i fetteled around with the dampenig settings on the units. the rears were on full soft. front were set on around 17 clicks. someone on crx-uk made a thread a whilse back on what he thought was best. i would reccomend anyone trying D2 units on a honda hatchback/crx trys these damper settings first.

from full soft:

27 points on each front. 17 from full soft on the rears. seems to really soack up bumps alot more and no more crashing around. it go's around corners like flys sticking to crap lol!

11kg = 615lbs front / 7kg = 391lbs rear
D2 spring rates are sky high...well...atleast the fronts are...especially to someone who's never driven a car with coilovers.

You'll get use to it though.

wow there crazy hard lol!

then again i have had the car stupid speeds around silly tight corners and has 0 body roll (probably due to the high spring rates)

D2 Australian forums say its safe to drop or increase the shocks +/-2kg from the original settings. would say going to 9kg front and 5kg on the rear make it even smoother? i know i will have to ajust the dampening again and the springs are quite reasonable from the dealers over here (about $200 for the full set heh)

i love the way it handles with 0 body roll and its go cart like cornering quality's , i really need to find a huge smooth car park and just see how far i have to push her at speed to get the rear end to bite out or under steer off lol.

also the car is not dropped on the floor as i wanted to keep the roll center as near to stock as possible. i would say it has at least 4 inches of ground clearance all around from the chassis to the floor (mugen bodykit makes it look much lower though lol!)

i cant wait to hit Cadwell race track (its only a 10 min drive up the road form my house here in the UK) best sort of track, narrow, loads of tight corners and shed loads of road camber.
