Annoying shifter rattle or vibrating noise...
I get this annoying rattle from the shifter when i sit at a light in neutral or sometimes when i drive also. Its not the **** because its a screw on type.
Nothing is loose....
I replaced the shift linkage bushing and metal spacers when i did the swap. What else causes this as i heard its common.

I had the same problem when I installed my short shifter, man nothing is more annoying than that rattle. Problem for me was that the 12mm bolting the shifter to the linkage was loose so there was play between the shifter and the linkage so it would vibrate. Just go under the car and shake around the linkage and see if you can find the source of the rattling..
yeah it was weird cause it happened with my old d series alot and it was bad. Then i swapped my motor with different linkage and it went away for awhile. but now its back...its haunting me!!!
I noticed there is a piece that holds the ball of the shifter in place..but its plastic. I know it gets greased but does that go bad or need to be replaced???
Looks like a plastic bushing to me

i have the same issue and it drives me crazy! i just figured it was my shift **** because when i rest my hand on it the noise goes away. i know what ill be checking next time i jack that car up enough to get under it.
Well my d motor had the b pin, and the new linkage has a bolt and lock nut. Itsnot loose and the bolt fits tight as a pin.
I think its the plastic piece that the shifter ball sits in

get a new b pin (they are like 2 dollars from the dealership) having a bolt will cause noise and alot of play in the shifter and they really aren't that bad to put in...the pin is made of spring steel so it acually puts pressure on the inside a bolt will not do this
a friend of mine has this prob on his DC2 and it is rubbing on his cat back. i have the WS2 and i have no problems with clearance so im sure its not the exhaust. IDK bout anyone else but im gonna go with the plastic cup. ill check it out tomo and let u guys know what my case is.

To me, the throws feel around the same as stock if not just a bit shorter. I have shifter bushings too which makes the shifts extra crisp.
Only negative I have encountered with the shifter is it blocks my stereo a bit. Not anything severe, though.
Overall, ringing endorsement here. Even for a daily driver it is very comfortable.

Its made to be same throw as stock....just because its tall doesn't make the throw longer. Its tall to be closer to the driver!
Short shifters do the opposite and actually suck..

Yeah its weird, short shifters sometimes make you grind gears cause its almost to fast....plus this is my third short shifter and all rattled and made noise but the last one is not as bad! Stock shifter made no noise at all.

Have you ever driven a short shifter? Do you know how a lever works?
I really don't see how a short shifter could "do the opposite", which would be making the throws longer.

i had this problem with my DA. when i installed the short shifter it was doing the same thing like yours.....how i fixed it was going under the car and the heat sheild near the shifter and the catalist converter had to be removed. thats all i did and the rattle went away. this was on the teggy iono if its the same for the rex and hatch but you can give it a try
zccr-xsi: The reason for the larger shifter is to put the **** right next to the wheel. If you're driving on a track, you need both hands on the wheel, but need to shift often.
OP: Your shifter must be hitting the exhaust or exhaust heat shield. Sometimes you can put a little dent in the heat shield or something. If it's rusted, take it off.

You're both right and you're both wrong. A lot of "custom" short shifters are shorter height wise compared to the stock shifter. Because of this, your hand has to move farther from the wheel to shift, so that makes it 'worse.'
