f23 h22 5th gear
hey guys i'm about to buy an h22 for my CL, and i was wondering if anyone had ever done this..
i know that some of the b-series guys have taken the 5th gear out of an LS tranny and but it in a b16 tranny for better freeway speeds. i know that the f and h series trannies will bolt up to either block, so they have to be somewhat similar right? does anyone know if i can take the 5th gear out of my f23 tranny and put it in place of the 5th gear in the h22 tranny?
Thanks,
Tre'

Im not 100% sure..bu I know my buddie used gear clusters from a h23 in his h22? but why would you?? that tranyn is geared for that motor...yes it will rev higher at crusing speeds but thats in comparison to a 8000 rev limit....4000@ 80mph is ormal....
if its all about mpgs then don't get the h22, and remove you power steering and ac and you'll get about 35 mpgs from the f22b. Remove back seats, spare tires, and buy a dry cell battery for even more weight savings.
glass is heavy too as well as lots of other materials.
I wouldn't open the case of the tranny without it having a problem, they have a reliability fairy built in and if you open it up it gets away.
good luck though, let us know if it works and you get mad mileage though and i'll go dig the 5th gear out of my old trans and put it in my h22 tranny
later

It can be done with some modification to the bell housing. I'm going to be attempting this soon and if all goes well, expect an in-depth write up
awesome. pm me when you do. or i'll pm you if i figure it out first, which i doubt i will, cause 1 i suck at fabricating stuff, and 2 i'm probably not ordering my swap for another month (still trying to sell my other car)
