Clutch or torque converter?
OK last week I bought a 1992 Accord from a friend for $200. He said the clutch was going, and to baby it.
I notice over the next 5 days or so, it slipped a little, but not when initial taking off in 1st gear. Then I let the girlfriend drive it.
She tried to go up a steep hill after a turn and when shifting to second the car pulled about 5k rpm and went 15 miles an hour up the hill. She said white smoke came out the front.
I drove it, it was okay but seeemd to slip a little more. So I drove to my brother's about a 1/2 hour away to fix it. Halfway there, it started slowing. I was on the highway going 60 at 2200 PM or so, then 50, then 40 at 4k, then 20 at 5k, then nothing. I got it rolling again by pulling about 5800 at get up to 10 and off the interstate.
Now I start it, it goes nowhere. I can move through the gears without needing to push the clutch in. It's like it's in perpetual neutral. Pedal seems fine. Fluid could use replacing.
So I was gonna get a clutch kits and have at it, but the dude at Autozone said it sounded like the torque converter. I really can't afford to chase this around, so I am now waiting to get some help.
Which is were you guys come in

manual transmissions do not have torque converters and yes you need a new clutch. replace clutch, throw out bearings, springs, pressure plate, etc

Whatever was left of that clutch is gone when she DROVE UPHILL AT 15 MILES AN HOUR, RUNNING 5000RPM WITH CLUTCH SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT! Cheesus Crust, that's a freaking Masterpiece Theater of oblivious driving.

Ok, well I just got it. My first Honda :-). I love the car. Hell didn't even kick it when it gave me the cold shoulder on the highway.
Now to get it some place dry to fix the clutch. If the girlfriend wasn't so dang cute, I might get mad.
Thanks all
