In keeping with my hopes of spreading the good word of karting to the masses, here is some information I would like to spread with the fellow racers, HPDErs, and everyone else.
So as the race season has started here is a little something of what I had to get done before Saturday's race. The initial work was done early on the in week, but the majority was done on Thursday night with some clean up work on Friday morning.
The required end of year maintenance:
1. Bottom end rebuild
2. Top end rebuild
3. Chassis maintenance
So after a season of racing, the motor and bottom end needed to be freshed up.
With the clutch cover off, I can start taking it all apart. Having done a couple of S80 tranny's in my "hybrid" life, I was still intimidated with this gearbox.

Clutch basket and discs off:

Tranny and crank exposed:

Crank is now out:

Look how cute it is:

To think that this little gearset hauls me around a track from speeds of 70mph up to 90mph:

The new crank. Notice no piston on it. That is after it goes in.

The bearings were replaced using the Easy Bake method. Each case was put into SVH's oven for about 20 minutes and the removed. I flipped the case over and the bearing dropped out. I then inserted the bearing into the pocket and let the case cool. Repeat.
After that was done, I put the tranny back and assembled the cases together minus the crank to make sure the tranny could shift. After that was verified, the crank went in. Everything was bolted up and the bottom end was done.

So now the top end needs to go on. Here are the parts needed:

When it was said and done, the top end was built.
Pics and play by play of the race will be posted shortly.
