My stock alternator went out so I bought an ESP alternator bracket to run the d-series (91 civic OBDI) alternator in my 5th gen.
I wired up the OBDI harness to my stock OBDII wires accordingly and started the car up. It idles fine, then a few minutes after, the battery light and CEL comes on very faintly. And when I took it for a test drive, the speedometer would go on (when the gas pedal is depressed) and off (when the gas pedal is pressed).
Is this happening because of a wiring issue or the different amps output of the two alternators?
Thanks,
Kev

what cel does it throw?
what amp output is the d series alternator? our cars need around 90 (for fourth gen), i'm not sure about 5ths, im sure its around the same if not higher.

What voltage is the alt putting out?
I know it's not the same car/engine, but I using a stock D alternator from the auto parts store on my H23 and it works great.

When I try to check for the code, it acts as if there was no CEL. The CEL comes on faintly, which makes me believe something is triggering the light, but not necessarily from the ECU.

the d-series alternator puts out 60amps and I think you're right about the H22 alternators putting out 90amps.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I didn't measure the output, but how long have you been running the alternator and are you running any accessories?

I have had it for over a year now.
Honestly, I have NO accessories
No radio, AC, etc...just the stuff that's needed to make the car run and pass inspection.
I do get a solid 14.5 volts (or whatever the proper voltage is, it's been a year) from it and I don't have any issues.
Oh, and they have some high output D-series alternators that can go to over 200 amps.
Saw some on eBay...

The one that broke was the OEM one that I've had since I purchased the car new, so it's 8 years old. The "new" d-series alternator is a remanufactured NipponDenso.
