Default What type of paint can I use in engine bay? ie Want to de-rust engine bay

Hey all,

While my motor is out, I want to DE-RUST my engine bay. All rusty bolts getting sand blasted, all brackets, etc.

Things like the watertube on back of block looks like crap and I wanna paint things in the engine bay like that so when the motor is back in, everything looks nice and clean.

What are your thoughts on clean up idea and/or a paint I can use to paint things in the engine bay?

oops didn't even think about that forum haha. Was just thinking turbo guys would know since engine temps are usually higher. Where can I buy the above mentioned? Is it in a spray can?

You'll want to hit it first with a primer, then whatever paint you end up with. You also want to wash the raw steel with soapy water, and spray it all in good humidity/temp air. You may also want to get it done professionally (have them prime it at least), since rattle cans usually suck at preventing rust.

Another thing to use afterwards is corrosion-inhibiting spray. McMaster.com has some (bought a bunch), and you just spray it on. The indoor stuff is like what you find on a new tablesaw/vise/etc with raw metal, and the outdoor stuff (2yrs of protection) forms a waxy-like film.

Don't underestimate that grill paint though.... Designed to prevent rust, elements, and protect grills. It lays on anything too, even with poor prep....still looks awesome. That grill paint is impressive stuff...that's all I gotta say.
