Silver soldering....anyone hear of this?? Not plumbers solder!!!
Ok, another HT member said he "silver soldered" a oem honda fuel line bracket and a steel AN fitting together. He said it fills in space and it won't leak.
Anyone know how to "silver solder"? What is used to do so?

Silver soldering is mostly silver with a little bit of tin in it, you melt it and it gets sucked into the pores of the metal. Its reasonably strong and can be used on dissimilar metals like you have there. Its not the easiest thing in the world and I'm no expert but thats the gist of it.
where can i purchase that from??
Does a oxy/act torch get hot enough?? I seen those in home depot but with small tanks and they don't sell the refills like they do with propane. Who refills those small tanks with oxy/act??

Can get silver solder from Jewelery supply stores. Oxy torch gets too hot and usually the air pressure will blow your solder away. For something that small try using the accetylene with a small tip. Be sure to use flux. I'd like to see pics when you are done too. Also when using it for jewelry the real trick is making sure that your metal is not enough to bond to the solder. Not sure how that will work with metals you are using, I've only done it with copper and silver. Oh, one more thing, if they ask if you want hard or soft solder they are referring to the melting point of the solder and you probably want hard solder.

There is a link to a Home Depot version. You will need to get bottles, you can either buy or lease some from a gas supply shop/weld store and you can also get your silver filler from there. You need Oxygen and Acetylene. In the picture their is two tips, the one on the bottom not connected to anything is for brazing. Try setting your regulators to about 5psi each and go from there. It might help to get a book or something to get you started. IMO brazing is pretty hard, or at least to make it look good.

the problem with silver solder is it does'nt bond into the metal......... no penetration it literally just sits there and hardens..........
IE not even close to the strenght of a weld, i would'nt count on that lasting forever. we silversoldered a hole in a compressor tank, and the pressure just blew it off.......

Well this isn't really needed for strenght..cause the fuel line goes into the bracket and the silver solder is used to fill the spaced to prevent any leaks!
