Default Resealing/Assembling 3-Piece Wheels?

First of all I'm a dumbass - let's get that out there up front so there's no need to point that out to me.

With that out of the way let me tell you guys my problem:

I just bought a car that had some blue spoked Black Racing wheels - Panasport/Watanbe looking wheels. I intended to repaint the spokes only in a matte black or gunmetal finish, and I realized that taping the lips with the bolts in place would be a huge PITA.

I realized the wheels are actually very nice, 3 piece wheels so I got the brilliant idea to take the bolts out, pull the outer rim off, and easily respray the spokes, then reassemble.

Little did my ignorant *** know that once you break the seal/unbolt the rim from the rest of the wheel that they'd have to be resealed to reassemble them.

My questions:

1. I only pulled one rim/lip off of one wheel, so I know this one will have to be resealed as I can see the silicon-type material that held the rim to the wheel - is this something I can do myself?

2. I only pulled the bolts from the other wheels, and did not pull the rim off or break the actual seal/gasket material - can these simply just be reassembled/bolts and nuts put back in and retorqued?

I did find a local ATL shop to do the work, but they're calling me back with a price and I fear it'll be cheaper just to buy new wheels like Rotas/Drags etc.

Thanks in advance for any possible help.

Thanks.

That helps some, but where would I get the high pressure sealant, and also that link doesn't help me to know if simply removing the bolts alone requires resealing.

if you just removed the bolts and not the face from the barrel then i doubt you need resealing...bit better safe then sorry..if these wheels have 2 piece barrels (sounds like they do) then i would reseal them anyway to avoid any leakage down the road ...

you can buy silicone at any hme depot, hardware or possibly pep boys..

what would be a good brand to use? also u only use it as a calking or u also use it as a thin gasket between the back and front barrels?
