Default Need advice on purchasing an Integra

Heres what part of his FS thread says:

The Car has a Check Engine Light because of the Catalytic Converter. I just Ordered one and will INSTALL as soon as i get it.
Last but not least the car smokes from time to time but, it is a VTEC motor and its really only smokes at high Rpms and I dont beat on the car whatsoever it does nothing for me and, I prefer getting more gas mileage than anything.

Does that catalytic converter sound like something that would make the CEL come on?
Also what do you think is making the car smoke?

For OBDII (96-01), yes the catalytic converter can cause a CEL. Have you pulled the code to confirm the CEL? (See the FAQ thread stickied at the top of the forum.)

Does anyone know what might be causing the engine to smoke at high rpm's?

It could be running rich or burning oil. Perform a compression or leakdown test to check the rings. I assume this is black smoke.

If he doesn't beat on it, how does he know it smokes at high rpm? Sounds like he has a bad motor and now he is trying to get rid of it. Probably burning oil and that caused the cat. to go out.
