Do I need the speedo cable to be plugged into the guage cluster for vtec to work? I have the speedo sensor plugged into the tranny, but am going to leave the speedo cable unplugged from the cluster. What do I do?
This is car has a PR3 OBD0 ecu. The tranny is an S1.

yes computer needs to see a speed signal from the instrument cluster, if you dont hook up the speedometer cable the ecu wont see a speed signal and wont engage the the vtec solenoid.

Well, what if I just jumped the vtec solenoid with an rpm activated switch (or window switch)? I have an MSD box. Would that **** the ecu off, such that the ecu set a cel and put it in open loop?
