Default Dome/Map light led conversion *Lots of Photos*

Well, its the middle of winter here in Manitoba. So i thought ill'd do a project to my integra that i can do inside my warm house.

I decided to mod the dome and map lights with leds since from factory they really dont throw much light and give off the normal yellow light as a light bulb would. Changing to leds would give me any color i wanted and also to make it look modern.

I noticed i super good deal that a store locally was selling led "click and stick" puck lights. They give off a super bright white light and for the price i couldnt complan. So i bought 4 packs for $2.99. Heres a picture

(Note: led flashlights or something similar would work, or you could just buy leds and make your own)

I took them apart and ripped out all the stuff that i dont need and was left with this

I needed to change out the resistor so it can run off 12-14volts and also wire them in series for best results. (thanks Just In KY 2002 and Azdave for the helping me) heres the website i used to find the resistor that needed to be changed http://www.quickar.com/noqbestledcalc.htm

More photos yeppy hehe. Heres the leds modded

The led fleet

To install the leds onto the dome and map light housing, the terminals for both the light bulb holders needed to be cut off since they would be in the way and also some triming need to be done. Side cutters and a dremal took care of this. Here is the dome housing and map modded to accept the leds

Dome:

Pcb with leds installed onto the dome and map housing. For the dome light i angled all the leds in each direction to disburst the light evenly so it would shine throughout the whole interior

Wiring: (sorry only have pic of dome)

And last but not least the installed pictures. Sorry about the bad pictures but its very cold out side and my car is put away in the garage for winter. (Note: my battey isnt fully charged so the leds arnt getting full voltage thus cousing them to have a tint of blue light.)

Map and dome:

I dont have any before and after pictures because my camera dosn't really work well without light so it probably wouldn't have shown the old bulbs anyways couse it was so dim.
The pictures really dosnt do it any justice couse there alot brighter then what it shows in the pictures. Over all im very pleased with the way it turned out and would do it again.

I like it way better then stock, The white light just makes everything more brighter and just gives it that updated new car luxury look. I would forsure do it again if i had to. Some one said they sell 9 led stock bulbs on ebay that shine fairly well so if your not so good at doing a mod/custom job, you could alway buy that and should shine fairly bright. I also want to change the bulbs in my rear hatch and my plate to shine nice white light

I just finished doing this to mine yesterday. It is quiet easy. You do not need any glue, just push the pins back and stick them as deep as you can but make sure they touch the ground. It took me about 30 minutes to do all 3.

I have 12 in the dome light and 12 in the map light.

Damn i'm amazed at the brightness and how well the light spreads out thanks to your smart aiming techniques. This is w wicked DIY and very smart too. Never thought we could use those LEDs in our cars but using the proper resistors you can.

I'm enjoying reading these LED write-ups, about time we seen some here in the forum.
