Default Money $hift: Doh'

How's it going guys. I don't post in the 'lude forum that much but I recently bought and blew up a 2000 lude base w/ 66k. Before I get any **** for being a noob, I made a mistake, I know this. It happens. Anyhow, I took some pictures of the carnage for you. As I know pictures make people on H-T .

Peices of the piston were too small to take pictures of as they were sitting in my oil pan. The block was trashed at the shop, didn't even bother to bring it home.
For the tech part of the thread, could a machine shop do anything with this head, or is it totally fubared? Thanks-Eric

p.s LETS GO G-MEN!!!!!

holy sh%t what did you do to cause that? well congrats on some engine part trophies. as far as i know i dont think machine shops can fix that severe of damage in the combustion area. the other thing to look for is to see how much the cyl head is warped with a straight edge and feeler gauge. but id try bringing it to some places ya never know they might tell you someone who can re-machine all that damage. good luck

you might be able to get it fixed. Likely weld the chambers and reshape them. But the whole head needs to be inspected to make sure everything is within spec and that nothing else was damaged.

sorry to hear about your engine.

I already checked the head w/ a straight edge, its still fine. All the valves are done, as it won't hold oil over night. The main damage is what you see. I figured it could be fixed, but the question is would it be worth it. I guess I'll drop it off at the local machine shop and see what they have to say.

it would be cheaper to find someone selling another head.

True story, but I already purchased a new motor for the car. I'll have it as soon as all the parts arrive for the swap, so sometime this week. I wanted to salvage this head for a build up, thats the only reason I have it still laying around.

I'm not sure to be honest with you, if its worthless it'll just get trashed like the block. Though I salvaged EVERYTHING off the block that was worth keeping. I'll probably do the same w/ the head. If someone threw me an offer on it, I'd probably off it with the quickness though.

"money shift" usually referrs to shifting from 3rd, missing 4th and ending up in 2nd.. needless to say... more rpm's than the h22 can handle, thus costing lots of money..

Thanks for the pics!

Looks like the head could have been repaired: new seat, guides, etc. That rod looks like it was hot before it let go. It may have spun the bearing.

Great pix

Anyway it makes you think about the forces in engine that make rod bending like a plasticine.

Not too sure to be honest with you. I was going into 4th at about 7200 rpms. It only felt like a split second that I over-revved but hey. It obviously was enough.

He didn't do the damage by not shifting quick enough, just so you know. Just an accidental shift into second from third instead of fourth from third caused the damage. Don't be scared of manual

Nah, thats not my bag. I was coming off the highway, onto the road I live on, walking through the gears (not paying attention) as I've done so many times before. It just got the best of me this time around.

I picked up an AEM intake/BPi velocity stack with k&n filter, all new seals/fluids/filter/tune up parts. Also filled my mounts with 94A liquid urethane. If anyone's interested in a DIY for that, it beats the hell out of using window weld. So the motor will be going back in tomarrow night after I can get the last car out of my bay so I can get mine in.
