Default Crankshaft Oil Seal???

Hi,

I went to pepboys this morning to have my wheels align and I also told the guy to check where the leak is coming from (oil or something) anyway they found the leak and its coming from the crankshaft oil seal rear and he quoted me a price for $700 to repair it.

He said that they have to remove the transmission in order to fix it.

Is this something that needs to be fix right away and is the price ok?

Thanks

It depends on how much oil you're going through. If you're going through a lot of oil quickly and you're sure the rear main seal is leaking, then I would say it's priority.
If you're not going through that much oil, then you can hold off.

If the bottom of your car is covered in oil from the air taking the leak and spreading all over, then I would bump it to priority. You wouldn't want a fire!
Just make sure it's coming from the rear main and not the distributor seal, oil pan, etc...
The only way to see if the price is fair would be to shop around.
I agree that if it's a manual tranny, do the clutch when the tranny is out. Same labor. If it's an auto, make sure they refill with Honda ATF only.
