'05 S 2000 rear diff fails at 44000 miles...
Warranty Busters.. Has any one had a rear diff covered when slightly out of warranty? fluid was full, and full of metal shavings.. Cold weather may have been a factor (-20 F)
I also doubt it was the weather. You're SOL start saving up some money to get it rebuilt because I seriously doubt Honda will have any sympathy for you.

Be HONEST. What did you use the car for? Did you launch it a lot? Beat on the driveline a lot?

you'd be pissed if you diff went out too..
straight from honda's site
* Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty (years/miles) = 3/36,000.
* Powertrain Limited Warranty (years/miles) = 5/60,000.
* Corrosion Limited Warranty (years/miles) = 5/unlimited.
* Accessory Limited Warranty - All Honda accessories are covered up to 3 years or 36,000 miles, depending on time of installation.

This guy's right. BUT, this is why the 45000 mile diff. fluid change is so important.
Mine got done, fo sho!

Because everyone doesn't live in florida. I dont drive mine in the winter...ever. But other people may not have a second car. Besides, subzero temps are not a problem at all. I just dont like getting salt all over mine. My paint is still nice...and i'd like to keep it that way.
back on subject.
The OP never replied. Maybe we scared him off?

Thats a lot of miles for an 05. Geezus.
anywho, driving style is more likely the factor for the rear diff to fail. Gear dropping, hard launches etc, will cause the rear diff to fail prematurely. The S in general, has a shitty rear diff.
Also, vibrations coming from the rear end such as worn cv joint housings, unbalanced driveshaft etc can cause the ring and pinion to fail also. Although, it is very rare for it to happen like this, I was indeeda victim of the shakes which later caused me to blow the teeth off my pinion and blow shards of metal into my diff carrier

Has anyone seen the 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty apply to a lease? I would like to talk to any Honda service ormanager who believes this may not be due to lack of maintenance..ie: the fluid was full, but not yet changed at 44,000. The prospect of paying for this repair on a lease vehicle could cause me to become an alcoholic.
<--- 96k miles 2001 model ap1... still running strong, a little chatter during cold startups, clutch may show some signs of wear but still suprises me by being able to chirp 3rd gear

Did you know something was wrong when you test drove it? Or was it a surprise after you actually signed the papers.
I once had a CEL come on about a 1/4mile down the road from the dealership after signing papers. It was on a civic. Easy fix. But still....super annoying that it didn't come on during the test drive.

Yeah....I realized the problem after I signed the papers, plus the pares that I signed states that I'm satisfied with the condition of the car.....so I don't think that anything can be done really.
I'll get it fixed, no problem, but the other guy won't be able to fix his reputation.

look into your state law. you might be able to get him to pay for the damage.
