going on a road trip from VA to CA. need tire recommendations
I am building a turbo crx with goals of putting down a high 200, low 300 hp. Anyway my friend and i are going on a road trip to CA and i am looking for the following out of a tire. Great dry traction that will give some decent grip from a dig and in turns. I don't really care about wet traction just as long as i am not slipping all over the road, i don't ever try and push it in the rain. Comfort and noise are not an issue because i a riding on pic's and running open down pipe. I am not going to drive it in snow because it sits to low. The last thing i am looking for is great tread life. I already tried the tire rack thing and it came up with a really expensive tire, i really don't want to pay more then $80 per tire. Thank you for your help, it will be greatly appreciated.
The Falken Azenis RT-615 is what you need, in 195/60-14, 205/50-15, or 205/40-16, depending on the size of your wheels.
The RT-615 is a good recommendation for dry performance. They are a sticky performance RT tire designed for the Track. They will get you though the rain if you drive conservativly and will hold the road very, very well for you when you're driving spirited on dry roads. They should also hold pretty tight with the added turbo boost.
If you want something with a little more life look at the Ntto NeoGen
They will last you a little longer than the RT615's will and will be a little better suited for the mixed road conditions you might face on your trip. You will loose a little grip in comparrison to the RT615's but you will gain life and according to Nitto The Neo Gen are designed to wear better is you have negative camber. I had these tires on a car of mine and i thought they were great tires. I love cornering hard and they held up nice.

Wow, I can't think of a WORSE recommendation for what you're asking for.

The NeoGen is an all-season tire. All-season tires are designed to have the flexibility to grip reasonably well in snow and frigid cold as well as in moderate to warm temperatures. In exchange for that flexibility, their performance is MUCH worse in moderate to warm temperatures than ANY decent summer tire (and they're not as good in snow as winter tires). It's a "compromise tire" if you need the additional flexibility of driving in winter conditions. YOU DON'T. And you've already said you care about performance, not treadlife, which means this is NOT a good choice for you.
Even long-lasting summer tires (like the Kumho SPT, for one example) perform much better than all-seasons in moderate to warm temperatures. And on dry pavement, the RT-615 performs much better than longer-lasting summer tires.
Get the Falken RT-615. Don't even consider the Nitto NeoGen, which is not a good tire for your stated needs.
Disclaimer: I have no association with any tire manufacturer or retailer, and I have no incentive for you to buy one tire over another. I'm just trying to help you find what's best for your needs.

Just so you know; 'great tread life' and 'RT-615' and not usually found in the same sentence.
That being said, you can't win them all. You can't have excellent price, excellent grip, and excellent tread life. Usually you are able to get away with 2 of the 3.

tread life on the azenis is horrible.....great sticky tire tho. you just cant have both stick and awsome treadwear its impossible. i have had toyo proxy 4's on two different sets of wheels. good traction on dry, wet. pretty stiff sidewally and sticky enough and decent price!
