Does $350 sound a little high to change the timing, and water pump belts?
I'm thinking about doing it myself, but I really don't want to open up a Pandora's box either.
I'm also kind of skeptical of letting someone else work on my engine.

yeah considering just parts should be around 100 or more at low cost, for labor as well thats a damn good price. I would ask for your old water pump, and both belts, just to be double sure they got changed.
I also just thought about the tensioner issue, either have the tensioner replaced with a new one if its auto, or do the manual tensioner swap while its apart.

Adjusting the tension? if so that's a crazy rip off.
4 hours is reasonable for timing belts and water pump. depending on what labor rates are around you, you can figure it out.

450= labor @ 100 dollars an hour
225= Parts T-belt and balance shaft belt
SOunds like a rip to me. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by krom »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">At a mechanic I trust, I got quoted $675 for parts and labor to replace all the belts. If you can afford to have your car down for a day or so, and have all the right tools(Timing light) DIY. Otherwise....

Sorry to steal the thread but I adjusted my timing the other day and I was using a basic inductive timing light with no advance. With an automatic transmission would it be better to check the timing in park or in drive with the parking brake on? Also would anyone how far you can safely advance the timing from factory spec a H23 with a stock ECU?
Thats a fantastic deal.
From the Honda stealership locally we pay 1200 for a timing belt/water pump job.
Good thing I know a group that has a zero clearance hoist and will do the timing belt water pump for 400 bucks, and let me supply the parts. AAAAAAND will guarentee their work for a year no questions. If I supply the parts though I have to prove it was their labour and not my parts. Thats fair though.
My own question ? (sorry for my momentary threadjacking)
As far as timing belt area is concerned I was using a stethoscope and listening the other day (honda a while back told me I'm due for a timing belt/water pump change because the age of my car (motor only had timing belt water pump changed when I swapped motors 40000 KMS ago)When I listen to the timing belt cover all I hear is a rolling sound. Otherways I don't hear shiet. What would you hear if things wern't right?
