Timing Belt Question (D-Series)
I have a D15Z1 that I'm in the process of freshening up. When I went to do the timing belt I didn't see any timing marks on the crank but I figured it was just because it was VERY rusted. So I lined up the cam at TDC and did the belt with the crank in the same orientation that it was. Then I noticed that there were timing marks... on the other side of the pully... It appears that the crank was 180 degrees from where it was supposed to be. The little key notch for the crank pully was straight down instead of up... I redid the belt so that the timing marks line up now. But I've never done a d-series timing belt before so I don't know if I somehow did something wrong or if it was wrong before or what. Does that sound right? Would having it like that have damaged anything? I don't really know the history of the engine and haven't ever run it so im kinda worried now...
Thanks!
Thanks!
I don't think it should've been able to run if it really was like that. There are timing marks on the lower timing belt cover that the pulley should be matched up to. What I usually do is visually verify that the #1 cylinder is at TDC by taking the spark plug out from that cylinder and sticking the dipstick in it. You can see the dipstick go up/down as the crank is moved.
