1994 Accord odd transmission downshift
One more for the night and I'll quit pestering you guys. Soon my manuals will be here and I can learn some more on my own.
The trans on this car seems awfully anxious to downshift into low gear. Let me explain....
After coasting down to, let's say, 10 mph, the slightest throttle opening will result in a shift to low gear. Its sorta annoying when you are trying to gently accelerate after coasting down. The trans seems fine in all other respects, the fluid level is fine and the fuid is clear and red. The car has about 150K miles but records show the trans was flushed several times over the years.
Any suggestions? Adjustments? Or maybe this is the intended operation?
Many thanks for any help. If you guys need help with old Jags, gimme a shout. That's what I'm accustomed to working on

anywhere below 25 mph the trans can downshift all the way to first.
For instance if you are driving on a level road with light throttle at 25 mph and stomp the gas to the floor, the trans should downshift to first.
Repeat the same drive at 27-28 mph and when you stomp the gas the trans should only drop to second gear.
There is a pressure lever at the front of the trans attached to the throttle via a cable.

Thanks for the reply.
I understand the full throttle downshift part.
The problem I have, though, is it wants to downshift to first under very light throttle. Like, coast down to 10-15 MPH and then just barely touch the throttle and it drops to first gear.
Is there an adjustment procedure for the pressure lever?
Thanks !

is there an adjustment for the cable? it sounds like it nees to be shortened a little so you have to press further on the gas to get it down into 1st
The adjustment procedure for the pressure lever cable.
Be sure there is a little slack in the throttle cable.
Back off the adjustment nuts on the pressure lever cable, so there is a slight amount of slack in the cable at the pressure lever, with the engine idling tighten the cable adjuster nuts so that the pressure lever just BARELY starts to rise as you BARELY increase RPM when turning the throttle open.
I stand up a long screwdriver resting on the end of the pressure lever to better feel the movement.
