Newbie with caliper/brake pad replacement question
Hi Gang
Just bought a 1994 Accord EX Vtec for my 16 y/o daughter and am in the process of making sure its roadworthy and safe. So far, so good, but I have a couple questions which I'll post under separate topics....
I want to replace the rear disc pads but this car apparently has screw-in caliper pistons which must be wound inward. I've heard of these but its for first for me to work on them. Do I just turn them in by hand, or is there a tool to use, or ?? Anything here I should be worried about?
Thanks
Doug

Never mind. Just read the write in the FAQ section. Sorry I didn't look there first.

Well when I got this car passed down from my brothers, I checked....
-The suspension. Watch out for those torn CV boots, and inspect all ball joints. I recently had a torn outer tie rod end.
-Good thread tires
-Cleaned the EGR ports
-Cleaned the fuel injectors
-Clean the throttle body
-Change all fluids (brake, coolant, oil, tranny)
-Inspect filter
-Change rotors(must be old)
-Inspect those radiator hose
-Inspect the radiator. Those have a tendency to fail near the cap for some reason....
Basiclly follow the guideline in your owners manual. The things listed above, I did to my car. Very reliable still.
As for the rear caliper http://images.andale.com/f2/11...l.jpg Make sure when screwing it in, the pins on the brake pads can slide in. Make it parallel to the pin. Just insert your ordinary rachet into that tool and righty tighty.
Also 5th gen has a problem with the oil pan leaking due to heat breaking down the gasket from the hot exhaust. Make sure that thing is not leaking too bad.

uh... thats the first I've heard of that. There are plenty other engines that have the exhaust pass under the oil pan like that and they don't all have that problem. My 95 EX didn't appear to have a leaky oil pan, but I was doing some other things so I replaced it anyway, still didn't have a problem.
