Default considering new headlights

Alright, I cant stand the horrible lighting I get from my 88 CRX factory headlights. Before I go any further the main issue is the inside reflective surface is chipping away.

Now I have been looking at OEM replacement but it seems like the glass old school design really sucks for good light. I work 2nd shift so I drive home everynight in the dark and would like some better lighting.

I see alot of these cheap aftermarket ones make the front of a car look absolutly horrible, so I dont want to go that route unless some people have pictures of some that look decent and somewhat factory.

So main question, what does everyone do? I know im not alone here! Suggestions?

get the high beam bulbs 9005 or 9006 cant remember then take a dremel to the inside of where it plugs in so you can plug it into your lowbeam plug you also gota notch it so it will fit in the low beam socket. or hid's if you got the money to spend.

I found that the stock headlights are the only ones that look good. Aftermarket selection sucks a$$
I bought some brand new factory headlights and some good light bulbs

You can go the projector or hid route, but that is expensive, more complicated, and illegal for any vehicle that didnt come with these lights stock.

The bulbs I ended up with are toshiba HIR(halogen infared reflecting) bulbs, after trying $70 piaa bulbs.

the HIR bulbs are a new light bulbs, check out this site for more info on HIR bulbs and instalation. http://hirheadlights.com/
alot of poeple recomend silverstar bulbs, but I hear they dont last too long.

I am willing to bet someone will mention the 9005 conversion (edit: yep, right before I posted), where you stick the high beam bulb in the low beam socket. Do not do this! its not safe to run higher wattage bulbs(65w on a 55w curcuit) , plus you will get similar or better results from a good (correct)bulb.

anyway I was pleased with the new housings, light bulbs, and aiming/adjusting the headlights properly.

Sylvania Silverstars are good, but i wouldnt spend the 30 to 50 dollars on them...if you have stock headlight housing it wont matter...it'll still look the same, might not be able to see the difference. I bought some and wasnt pleased with them, so ti took them back...i rock projectors now, love them...i'm about to put some plug-and-play HID's for the low. I dont care.

Thanks for the details on those bulbs, I am reading up on them.

I currently have the silerstars in my car, and well Im not to pleased.

HID's are an option to me, money is not an issue for my "Bit#$"

""Shes called that cause she thows a tantrum if I dont tinker and add some nice parts to the motor""

I think I will order me some new OEM lights to start, I cant believe they are almost $75-$85 per light! but you goota pay for the good stuff right?

Heck I was even going to consider going the route of redoing the whole front with the S-14 nissan lights.....but again many of those swaps look to ricey for me.

I would like to keep the car looking as stock as possible, minus under the hood, and probably paint, wheels. but everything I want to put on it or in it needs to be performance related.

Another option worth looking at is a set of EDM Si headlights. The are still made of glass, and use a H4 single bulb setup. They do seem to be a better design than the usdm version. Also, some have the option of the height adjustable beam as well

I sold my edm Si headlights in favor of the newer EF8 front end style, but they too are the single bulb H4 design

this is something I have considerd, but would like to retain my high beams......I am strongly considering going with an HID kit....but then again I lose my high beams, or they are worthless.

So 2 questions.

Any recommended HID kits? I know you get what you pay for, so the $150 and down kits are a waste of time.

If I did go to an EF8 style headlight, would it reqire mods on my 88 USDM CRX, I believe it would and would look goofy without the EF8 conversion.

Man I never though seeing better at night would lead me to even stronger thoughts of doing the EF8 conversion on the front of my car, HAHA!

!st off you "don't" lose your high beams, where do you get that idea? H4 bulbs are all double element. As far as HID goes, i have exactly that for my setup running a true high/low HID setup with the headlight housungs.

2nd, you don't have to get an EF8 front end to have an H4 setup. In Europe, they come in both the EF8 style like mine, as well as the EF7 (just like USDM model)

So where can I find information on the legality or illegality of HID lighting? Is it possible to get a variance? If the new cars have them, why can't old ones?

Reading up on the HIR headlights but unsure as to whether or not it's worth it.

Yes, I've done several searches - but can't find the WHY they are illegal. Is it basically just because you modify stock headlights?

Located in WV. Can a variance be obtained?

Is it just easiest to get HIR headlights, and see (advertised) a 3x lighting improvement?

Are HIR lights better than silverstars? I've seen a couple people who claim they are. Is there a better option than HIR?

My stock werent so bad, but after i got the projectors, i loved them....just the look of it plus the light it puts out, its nice. I think they are brighter, except for the HID's, which i'm gonna do using my projectors.

I like my silverstars. I do get them at wholesale directly from them and when ever they burn out I get free replacements. If I didn't get that bonus, I'd not be running them.

i have brand new OEM Honda headlights and 8k 'ebay' HIDs. i love it, lots of light and if aimed right you wont get any unwanted attention.

why would it matter if it was the $80 kit with no hi-beam when on a EF the hi/lo is on a seperate bulb anyways???

my 8ks on Honda headlights
