Default Using thicker oil to temporarily reduce oil consumption?

I actually did search and did find some useful opinions on this matter, but still wanted to ask you guys regarding my specific situation. A little while back I re-installed my cylinder head (B16A2) and everything was fine, except that I'm burning a little oil (mostly just when the engine is initially loaded). I figure it's the valve seals because the engine was fine before I began work on it and also it shows good compression numbers. Plus the valves have been removed from the head twice without the seals ever being changed (I know, I know, shut up ). Anyway, until I can get the seals replaced, is it alright to run thicker oil in an attempt to reduce oil consumption (currently using 5W-30), and how thick can I go? By the way, I live in southern Arizona, so the weather is not extremely cold and in fact is already warming up for spring.

if you are using any xW-30 oil, it all gets to the same consistency once at operating temps, so no, it will not change anything.

That's pretty "standard" for a twincam VTEC. You gotta remember, these little bastards spin to 8k (or better), so burning a bit of oil is kinda their thing. But yes, changing your guides and seals would be a good idea. You could try changing to 10-40, but like Malakai said, they're all the same consistency at op temp.
