poor mans type-R....
how would you do a poor mans type-r swap? i know that you would need a gsr block and a b16 head, but i was wondering if my b16 parts are all compatible with the gsr block and if theres anything else thats need to be done?
poor man's type r is what people use ctr or itr head or block or internal parts for their b16 or b18 build up. for myself poor man's type r, i have jdm b16a sir2 engine and tranny and i installed CTR higher compression pistons, rings, wirst pins.CTR cams. all the new gaskets and o rings.type r oil pump. new timing belt, water pump..etc with itr intake manifold bored to 68mm with skunk2 68 mm TB, but type r intake manifold cant botl on to gsr block. pm me if u have any more questions. it will save u around $700~$1000 for labor if u know how to do the rebuild by yourself. the parts alone cost me around $1500~$2000
and after u have done the rebuilt/upgrade, u have to get it dyno tuned, that will be around $350~$500 , to get the right ratio of fuel and air. and a chipped ecu will be handy.

yeah bro...basically ur just thinkin of a hybrid... we talking about the internals... thats wat matter...oh, and if u really want it to run like a type-r, then a lsd tranny will make it fly...

This guy has the right idea, and in my opinion definitely pointing you in the correct direction. Good luck with your plans and eventual build...
To the OP:
It all depends on your goals and the type of person you are, but in my opinion with all the random parts you have to buy...and of course running the risk of one part or the other not being of the best quality since you're buying used and all that stuff, plus finding/paying someone to assemble everything...
I'd say you're better off just saving up the extra change and buying a complete C5. Unless you want to do the build for specific reasons, upgrading certain parts as you go along.
I think either way, as long as you do as MUCH research as you possibly can, and more importantly than anything....DETERMINE YOUR EXACT POWER GOALS before you even purchase a gasket, I think you'll end up very happy when all is said and done.
Good luck man, research research and research some more. Any more specific questions, this is the board to ask them on. This place is overloaded with knowledge and very professional/skilled mechanics and techs, that honestly take pride in being able to help you achieve the goals you set.
Plus, Its a respect thing....the more research you've done, and the more prepared you are, and of course the more detailed your question is....the more help you'll get from everybody. A lot of people on here HATE having to basically do all the work for you, yanno? There's way too many threads on here that says "what motor should I get, and where should i get it, and what parts should i put in it?" And when asked what his goals are...he says some dumb isht like "I want vtec to kick in early as possible, rev to 10k, and be very very fast!!! A lot of horsepowers!!!!". Then after he gets all kinds of responses...he says some **** like "Well how about if I turbo it? What kind of turbo, and other parts...how much will it cost?" And a bunch of other dumb isht questions that he really shouldnt be asking, as he can find ALL the information and answers by using the search feature.
I'm only saying all of this because you're new here. This place is known for its dickheaded posters, but most of them are dickheaded for a damn good reason. They HATE spoonfeeding people. So be respectful, do your homework, and ask VERY specific questions...and you'll get more help than you know what to do with. Enjoy it here man!
