possible brake problem

so today coming home from school i was approaching left turn with two turn lanes. i was on the inside and there was another car next to me on the outside lane. we were going faster than normal cause the light was yellow but well within reasonable turning speeds. The car on the outside turns sharp and enters my lane so i hit the brakes and my car understeers a little. i didnt hit the car but i felt a very harsh shuddering/vibrating/shaking from my brake pedal. a few minutes after that i'm approaching another light, it turns yellow right at that instant where you dont know whether to brake or go for it, but this intersection is camera enforced so i brake. the road is rough and it jerks the steering wheel around and i get the same vibration/shuddering from the brake pedal.
So my question is do you think i should get this checked out or is this just ABS kicking in?
I believe it might just be ABS because the brakes felt perfectly fine and smooth in all other braking situations and in both instances the tires may have temporarily lost traction while braking causing the wheels to lock up.

ABS kicks in all the time on my car. I don't brake that hard but i do feel the ABS kick in... most of the time its just uneven pavement or something on the road. make sure when ABS kicks in to keep your foot on the pedal until the ABS stops. (it says to in the manual but doesn't say why)
i think theres nothig to worry, imo its the ABS system working as it should.
you should keep pressing the pedal until 1)you stop completely or 2) when theres no need to brake anymore.
otherwise, you are only making longer stopping distances with the risk of doing so it involves.

The ABS adjusts the amount of brake applied to each wheel individually so that the car is stopped as quickly as possible without loosing traction/control. If you let off the brake while ABS is doing its job, you increase the stopping distance and may even loose control. This is why you are supposed to keep the brake pedal firmly pressed until stopped or braking is no longer necessary when ABS kicks in.

Not sure why...the grinding sound may be annoying, but ABS can be a real life saver. I saw a demo for ABS once where they had the driver slam on brakes with 2 wheels on dry pavement and 2 wheels on wet pavement. Every time they did it in a car without ABS, they spun out of control. With ABS, they came to a complete and safe stop every time.

Because he drives a GM vehicle. GM vehicles' ABS is really f***ed up sometimes. My dad's GMC Jimmy's ABS would go off in the most ridiculous situations. You think the FG's ABS engages a lot, try driving a GM car...lol.

LOL....good point. I never noticed it in my parents' old suburban, but then again I'm not sure if it had ABS or not.
