sohc vtec zc good or bad
i just bought a sohc vtec zc never heard about it util i found one
wanted to if it was a good motor. it feels stronger than the d16z6
and also you hear vtec and sounds like stock gs-r vtec.

same thing as d16z6, no difference in almost any way....other then some came only with VTEC solenoid (no oil pressure switch on the housing even in OBDI trim)
on the side note maybe you got a Wed. motor, so it might feel very good...
between a good D16z6 and weak d16z6 there can be as much as 10whp....

I had that same motor in my old civic coupe about 2 years ago. I did feel a diffrence in power like you are stating as well as the change of sound when vtec would engage. I don't know much as fas what the difference might be. I think that it might have higher compresion pistons. I am not sure though. I never removed the head from the block to verify anything. I ran 15.2x all motor in my old 93 Civic Ex Coupe at LACR which is in high elevation. I do have time slips to prove it too. Of course I had other mods too and weight reduction. It could have been just a very nice factory motor as to I too have seen some very very slow stock D16Z6 civics.
